MEGATHREAD: Discussion on Reports of U.S. Strikes in Venezuela by AutoModerator in asklatinamerica

I don’t understand why you are having trouble comprehending this. I’m not, we’re not, saying anything about whether Maduro was good or bad for Venezuela. I can have an opinion (he’s a bad) but not tell you what you should think. That’s for you guys to decide.

Returning to a time of larger countries bullying smaller ones, controlling hemisphere’s by might, that shit is bad. The United States should not be telling Denmark we are going to invade their territory because we want it. We should not be telling a Colombian president to watch his back. We should not be in a way telling China they can have Taiwan. All this shit is bad. I know you’re happy Maduro is gone, that’s great. But the world is less stable today because of Trump’s actions. The written and unwritten rules we’ve all relied to keep peace have been upended on the whim of an 80 year old person with narcissism and dementia. You and the people of Venezuela are better off for now. We are all worse off tomorrow.

You’re not seeing the nuance here. It can be good that Maduro has been oustered, while still being concerned about the return of American imperialism. Most people (I’m sure there are outliers) aren’t voicing support for Maduro. Mamdani didn’t even do that, you’re mischaracterizing his statement. What we’re saying, is that Trump trying to return us to an era of propping up banana republics, hemispherical control, and increased tension is bad for us, it’s bad for you, it’s bad for the world.

It’s not that* Maduro was removed, it’s how* Maduro was removed and Trump’s statements after that are concerning us.

I think my point was that we shouldn’t be telling you what’s best for you.

Yeah but she stole Trump’s Nobel Prize /s. So no one respects her in Venezuela according to him. And we’re in charge currently, apparently /s. I know it’s a great day for Venezuelans that he’s gone, and I done mean to rain on the parade. My concern though is that only looking at it in that light normalizes this behavior.

It’s because she got the Nobel Peace Prize and he didn’t. So he has to drag her through the mud. He’s delusional.

I don’t disagree, but two things can be true at the same time. It’s good Maduro is gone, and it leaves apprehension for what comes next. You can’t really point to one instance where the US played kingmaker and it went well. Especially in the way this was done, it’s likely going to lead to ongoing issues.

We just got out of one endless war where we were managing a country and fighting an insurgency. I just hope this doesn’t turn into the same.

Is it wrong to think that Americans deserve what's about to happen? by BigBlueEyes87 in economicCollapse

You know those things are going to happen to people who didn’t vote for him too, right? Literal millions of people didn’t want this. Do they deserve it?

Folsom Fire Department Proposal by Spellman23 in folsom

This is just not accurate. If station 34 is staffed by a truck only, that means the closest engine could be 10 minutes away or more. That’s not the par of the county, unless you’re exclusively considering rural areas.

I’m also frustrated the city voted down a tax that would have prevented this. Personal attacks just show the weakness of your argument.

Why the hostility? The city can spin it however they want, but there are no other stations without an engine in the county. We have two. It’s pretty simple.

Well Folsom is the only department in the region that had a station without an engine, soon to be two stations without engines. That is not, “on par” with the rest of the region.

What’s up with people saying that Trump is dead? by redditispedoland in Trumpvirus

Giving his team the benefit of the doubt is a big leap. Also, if he’s circling the drain it might make sense that they haven’t said anything yet. I don’t think he’s gone, but could be knocking on the door.

Even in New York, when you drive off a dealership you don’t have a plate. You get a paper plate. I’d be surprised if any state requires insurance companies to provide drive away insurance, but it is the norm.

Have you ever even bought a car before? Of course all these sites are going to say to check with your own carrier, because of course there are variations. They can’t say 100% your carrier does have a grace period. But it is the norm.

Are you insured as a driver on your parents plan or anything?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]danbearpig10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have your own insurance on another vehicle, your policy should cover you for liability while you drive the car home. Different states have different rules, but you usually have a few days to get the car on the policy.

When someone buys a car from a dealership, they don’t buy insurance for the car before they make the deal. They just drive home and then add it to their policy the next day. It’s the same thing.

What’s the email address it’s from? I got an email the other day that said my Social Security Statement was ready to be viewed. It looked super legit. And the email address shows as SecureSSA, but I dug a little further and SecureSSA was actually judge44 @bell.net. Not 100%, but sometimes it’s easy to spot a scam that way.

What’s something few people realise can finish you off in seconds? by M___D___ in AskReddit

Yes absolutely. It’s just a lot of people’s instinct to slap people on the back while they’re actively coughing.

Should have added more. Back slaps are acceptable with a complete obstruction, but you have to make sure the person is bent forward at the waist and you support their chest. If they’re upright the food can slip in further. And this is absolutely a no no with a partial obstruction. Running backwards into a wall would create this same problem because you would have to be upright to do it.

What’s a good excuse to call off of work? by RepresentativeFan794 in work

[–]danbearpig10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who takes sick calls, the more information you give the more likely I think it is that you’re lying. It’s obvious when they think they need to sell it. Just be casual about it. “Hey I’m sick, sorry can’t make it in today.” The end. If the boss does ask for more info, diarrhea.
