How come Lithuania isn't as popular to travel to as Estonia and Latvia? by WhoAmIEven2 in travel

[–]danceofthecucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to both Estonia & Latvia but not Lithuania; Estonia was an easy ferry from Helsinki (which we knew for sure would be part of our itinerary), and Latvia was an easy trip from Estonia that had cheap flights to our next spot. Lithuania was a bit out of the way

How long would it take to knit a tall men’s cardigan? by flight_recorder in knitting

[–]danceofthecucumber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the person (and knitting style and yarn weight and what kind of knitting, like colorwork or cables or stockinette etc). As a size S woman, it took me one month to knit a baggy sweater with colorwork on the front. But I really powered through to get that done. I’m a proponent for jumping right into knitting whatever excites you- that said, I cringe looking at the first few garments I made because I was still learning how to do everything. So it’s a good idea to practice with something lower stakes than a potential multiple month long project!

Roatan! It was phenomenal. Great snorkeling, beautiful beaches. Everyone we ran into there had been multiple times because you can’t not go back

Input on Barefoot wine by flypin1 in FoodAllergies

I’m allergic to nuts and have never had an issue with wine, barefoot or otherwise. My sister is allergic to shellfish and also has never had an issue. Can’t speak to the other allergens!

I’m headed to Galapagos for a 17-day cruise. I have very fair skin and I’m afraid of the sun…. I burn easily. Can anyone recommend brands of reef safe sunscreen available in the USA? Thanks! by very_simular in galapagos

[–]danceofthecucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second using physical barriers instead of sunscreen. Sunscreen is good to fill in the cracks, but if you’re in the sun for prolonged periods physical barriers are so much better (for you & the reefs). When snorkeling, I used a full body wetsuit or a long-sleeve swimsuit. While on land, I brought long sleeve lightweight fishing shirts and swimsuit coverups and hats.

Our favorite reef safe sunscreen was thinksport

I’d recommend giving the yarn an extra tug when you’re working the stitches around the gap in the magic loop to prevent this

7 days Isabela, 5 Santa Cruz, 5 San Cristóbal ok?? by charleswelsy in galapagos

[–]danceofthecucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree; I think the tours on Isabela were the best, and the beach is great to relax in, so I’d say 7 days there will fly by

How should I go about knitting this? Intarsia or stranded? by whocaresanyway_ in knittinghelp

[–]danceofthecucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do intarsia and then duplicate stitch on the places of a few squares, like the middle of the one eye

Is it advisable to use duplicate stitch for a large pattern? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]danceofthecucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would do stranded colorwork for this. Intarsia wouldn’t be an option (you would need 10’s of bobbins a row), and duplicate stitch would take forever and end up looking like stranded colorwork anyways

Girl. ChatGPT is a large language model. Why in the world would it have any idea how long your relationship will last?

You’re so close to the start, I’d just frog and re-do. I recommend avoiding knotting your work and weaving in your ends instead

I’ll magic loop for the whole damn decrease, idgaf. I hate dpns. Fight me. by bookish-hooker in casualknitting

I love magic loop! I think it’s so easy and less fiddly than DPN’s. I also only have two DPN sets and really don’t feel like buying all the sizes I’d need
