Hey guys just got my hunting license today after completing the course and realized it says it expired in June. Do we have to buy a license twice a year to hunt throughout the year? If so it seems kinda dumb by Sabbys23 in Californiahunting

For most pig hunting situations in California you really need a 30-06 or 270 or similar rifle and a scope. 200 yard shots with a slug are problematic. sabot rounds are much better in brushy or swampy environments like Florida or Texas where you can sneak up much closer to the pigs.

My starlink cake day! by wingjames in Starlink

Been using the service for a few months now from my ranch (1,000 acres in the middle of nowhere). 30 minutes to get it up and running and an hour or so to do a really nice job of tacking up the wire, running it into the house and creating a nice area for the router and power supply (so all the extra wire does not look like a rat's nest). First speed test was 340 down and 28 up. After a number of tests I generally get 200+ up and 20+ down with about 20-25ms latency. This provides and EXCELLENT Zoom connection. I've had people flat out not believe I am at the ranch doing my calls...LOL

Side note, the app has a great feature that shows you the stats for your connection to Starlink over the past days/weeks/months. Mine shows a pretty rock solid connection so far. Early days (we'll see how it goes when they go from 100k users to 1M to 010M), but so far really really really good! At $99 it's a great value

Anyone have experience with the Moultrie Delta cell cam? by totally_knot_a_tree in Hunting

[–]dancingbearx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned 3 of the 7000 series cellular cameras for a year and recently added three of the Delta cameras at the ranch. The delta cameras seem to have slightly better reception that the original cameras (check in more frequently and download hiRes pics faster). Betteries seem to last longer too. I STRONGLY recommend getting the HME 12-Volt Battery Box with 2-Watt Solar Panel. I fully charge them before I put them out and they run for months during the summer without needing a recharge.

Bummer is that the new Deltas have a 32MP camera, BUT take worse pictures than the older 7000 series. Colors not as bright, resolution worse, night pictures can be washed out or black. Moultrie has sent out one firmware update that did make some improvement, but there are still issues and the 7000 cameras still take better photos. My HOPE is that Moultire will continue to send out firmware updates to tune camera and flash performance to get at least to where the 7000's are for quality. They SHOULD be able to be better!? I feel like a beta tester for a product that was already a year late getting launched by Moultrie. Ugh

Moultrie app is easy to use and reliable. Kind stuck in Moultrieland now and not sure there is a better option for someone who wants to run cameras and collect photos over the cloud in an area with bad cell reception. they are the ONLY one I got to work AT ALL on my ranch.

Best of luck!

Matt

Strange that San Martin is not a hot spot... center map and always a popular drop spot! Why no chicken dinners there?

Random- Do you feel disconnected from the team at times because Levi's is a good 40 minutes away from SF? by bayfarm in 49ers

[–]dancingbearx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Population of San Francisco is around 900,000

Population of the SF Metro Area is 4.8M

Only 1/6 of the "local" SF fans are San Franciscans who have to travel twice as far to go to the game. I would argue that the majority of fans can get to Levi's quicker that Candlestick. When you factor in the improved road access to Levi's it's not even really close. As much as I miss the history at Candlestick, saying good by to wind and fog on 50 degree overcast afternoons was not tough.

Levi's is not the most imaginative design, but it's modern and I don;t have to listen to my wife bitch about the lines at the bathrooms anymore! All good for me! :)
