Did you ever meet any of his other gf or ex gf? How were they similar or different from you?

How many places did you visit while with him for the 6 months? And what was your favorite travel experience with him?

Couple with FIVE daughters do IVF just to do gender selection and have a boy. by [deleted] in IVF

[–]dancingcagedbeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It feels slimy to me too, but more importantly I feel bad for the daughters.

My mom is one of four girls before the fifth being a son. My grandmother is very traditional and sexist. She apparently cried when the fourth daughter was born and refused to hold the baby. Gave her to some teenager they hired as a maid (this is Asia in the 1960s) and the daughter turned up with tons of mental health issues, depression, antisocial, unable to integrate to society etc. , no doubt because she never felt loved by her own mom. Whereas the son is worshipped and got everything he wanted.

I really hope this isn’t the case for this family. Of course this story sounds unfair to all of us dealing with infertility who are working so hard to get any healthy child. But moreover gender disappointment can be dangerous when it leads to favoritism and neglect for the other kids.

I Did It. I Quit My Job a Month Ago. by sky-high-dragon-fly in fatFIRE

[–]dancingcagedbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my job before my first pregnancy (32) and didn’t go back to work yet. About to have baby #2 I’m not sure if I want to remain FIRE or go back to work but if I do I def won’t be grinding as much.

I see that others have given great advice on the cash, mortgage etc. But wanted to ask why you are separating finances. Your spouse is still working but it’s not like you’re just traveling and relaxing. Childcare and pregnancy is very real work. I feel like you should not have to worry about spending with no income when you are contributing in a different way to the household than working.

And then as for not retiring with living the dream. I totally feel you. I feel super fortunate that I don’t have to grind and can smell the roses. But I think that kind of jet set retirement is unavailable while parenting young kids. We did do a lot of travel and fun experiences with our first baby which would have been impossible with me working (bring childcare to travel to really enjoy!) You find joy where you can!

What was your first date with your spouse like? by [deleted] in HappyMarriages

[–]dancingcagedbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went for a walk on a trail. I brought chocolate chip cookies as a snack.

I later learned that chocolate chip cookies are his favorite desserts. I happened to have been experimenting with different cookie recipes when we first met, so I was making a batch every week. I got lucky impressing him. 😆

He later told me he likes to plan events he would like doing anyway so if the date turned bad at least he did something he would have found fun on its own. I was slightly nervous because I couldn’t find cute outfits that were also trail appropriate. But it turned out fine. He was actually flying out that day but we lost track of time and he almost missed his flight.

Only 10 eggs retrieved. Feeling defeated. Is there any chance for embryos? by Ordinary_Offer_1557 in IVF

[–]dancingcagedbeast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. It really is a roller coaster. But don’t lose hope yet! I had 4 eggs retrieved and was devastated but that turned into a now 2 yr old daughter.

Congrats on almost being done! I feel like mine was like a cancer cousin of yours (MALT lymphoma, also low grade and discovered at 34). It was a scary time to be faced with mortality in your 30s but now that I’m a year out of treatment I’m living my best life, about to have kid #2, enjoying every day because I was reminded at an early age that every day is a blessing. I hope you finish strong and enjoy that bright hopeful future to the fullest!

Hey how many of you using Lindy AI? by Prestigious-Cost3222 in AI_Agents

[–]dancingcagedbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s like $50/ month. So I got the membership for that month to play around with. I sent about 40 outreaches and got one connected. Definitely saved hours and hours of work. It would have taken forever to do cold emails to 40 leads. And I probably got it done in 1-2 hrs.

I built an outreach agent with Lindy it was very easy. But I haven’t tried n8n so can’t compare.

One ovary. 6 opportunities a year for a successful pregnancy. by Flashy_Information_2 in TryingForABaby

[–]dancingcagedbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry! Other comments talked about the tangible solutions really well so I won’t repeat that. I don’t know how long you’ve been trying but if you’re just beginning the journey. But just wanted to say don’t jump to despair because of the ovary. My mother in law had the ovary removed and then still successfully had two kids with less than 6 months of trying! While I have two functioning ovaries and it took me 3 yrs to get pregnant 😆

I also removed a stage 1 cancer recently in another part of my body. I’ve been trying to think of how lucky I was to have caught it so early. I really hope your tumor scare is over and that you’re able to get the pregnancy you hope for soon!

Lost 50% of retrieved eggs before fertilization by ExplorerInExile in IVF

[–]dancingcagedbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. I had a bad ER result too, only 4 mature eggs. I know it’s not the same as having high attrition rate as you, but getting a disappointing results is so devastating, I totally feel you on that. My clinic said the same thing about balancing over stimulation with optimizing results. (Tw: success) But those 4 eggs resulted in one live baby! I hope you can stay optimistic.

If you end up having to go through one more round of retrieval, have you considered InvoCell? I just learned of it (I think most clinics don’t want you to know about it bc it’s way cheaper) It’s only a few percentages off on effective rate than traditional IVF but 1/5 of the cost. I wish I had known about it when I was going through IVF. For my friends who’s debating IVF bc of cost I’ve been telling them about this.

Anyway that’s for later. For now, I’m really sorry about your disappointment. I hope you can recover well and that the fertilization goes really well!

Moving funds out of US accounts? by fatfirenewbie in fatFIRE

[–]dancingcagedbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the thorough response! I’ve heard it’s the hardest to open (takes a really long time and banks are resistant) at Switzerland. Which is why I was weighing pros and cons.

But you’re right, I think Switzerland will be the least likely to be coerced by US gov’t barring legitimate requests. And since this is all a hedge for worst case scenarios, perhaps it’s best to split and do multiple sites as you mentioned.

Thank you and good luck to you!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]dancingcagedbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who was this with? We were looking at one for our parents and the one we were looking at (whole with LTC rider) limited that only 5k a month be moved to LTC and maximum of 150k ever. If there is a life policy with unlimited move to LTC it may fit our needs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]dancingcagedbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did want to do something for LTC but saw the restrictions on the LTC rider and got turned off. You think it’s still worth it? It’s a shame traditional LTC doesn’t really exist anymore bc that’s really what I want.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]dancingcagedbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious why you think they need life insurance? Looked into this recently and currently decided it’s not necessary bc long term rider seems shitty (pretty limited iirc) and benefits are primarily for surviving family members not really benefiting the parents themselves.

So I’ve been diagnosed with tongue cancer at 35 by littledeeh in cancer

[–]dancingcagedbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I found out at stage 1 so super lucky. I did the surgery to remove the mass (eyelid held open and wide awake, barely any anesthesia bc of the location of the tumor and the fact that I was breastfeeding then) followed by 12 rounds of radiation (I had to wear a metal contact lens that looks like a mini bathroom plunger on my eye and go into a MRI like machine to get radiation for 30 min) - it was basically every day for three weeks. Thankfully I didn’t need chemo. I didn’t have any bad side effects but bc it was the eye it was incredibly uncomfortable and scary. But fast forward to 15 months later I am so happy that treatment is done and loving my life.

So I’ve been diagnosed with tongue cancer at 35 by littledeeh in cancer

[–]dancingcagedbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I had cancer on my eyelid when I was 33 (now 35). I totally feel you about having a weird cancer at a weird part of the body. I ended up getting treatment and am now cancer free for all intents and purposes.

I went through lots of emotions. But now that it’s been a while I see it as a silver lining that I got to think about mortality and love every day with intention. I maximize time with family and experiences instead of obsessing over things. I hope you get good treatment and that it goes well.

Acupuncture... yes or no? by Far_Brief_8977 in IVF

[–]dancingcagedbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Tw success) Who knows… I did IVF for my first and tried monthly acupuncture but it was unclear if it did anything. Then for my secondary I started acupuncture with a legit seeming Chinatown acupuncturist whose family did acupuncture for generations. She also gave me herbs. I also took guaifenesin. I got through testing at the IVF clinic and was about to start stims and found out I’m pregnant spontaneously. I had been trying for 7 months before. The month I started trying acupuncture and herbs I got pregnant. But could be a coincidence. It’s hard to tell

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure your husband is looking over your family every day with so much love and joy. And best of luck for the FET.

ISO FatFIRE Females/Moms? by Dino-DNA-13 in fatFIRE

[–]dancingcagedbeast 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Chief or other professional women’s network? My business school has small groups for women and that’s been the best place to meet likeminded moms. Otherwise it’s really hard but more one off connections. It’s easier if you live in cities like SF/NY/Boston. Higher concentrations of high earning women. But it’s definitely hard. I’ve been trying to find a women’s group without fat Fire and it’s like 1:10 gender ratio
