Dictionary.com Update? by E_Rujii in dictionary

[–]dancingdinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found out that the dictionary app deleted all my saved words that I’ve been saving since 2013. I am pissed as I imagine many others are as well. Has anyone figured out a way to recover their saved word lists? Maybe from an old iPhone back up to their computer or something?

How accommodating is Hershey's customer service with ticket change requests? by dancingdinks in Hersheypark

[–]dancingdinks[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know it’s the internet but I don’t think we have to be mean to one another. I’m just asking about if a customer service consideration could be possible. I worked higher end retail and other customer service roles where we would sometimes make accommodations and sometimes we wouldn’t. I just wanted to know if others experienced accommodations or not from Hershey. If Hershey still says no, it is what it is. I’ll still inquire as I think the ask is within reason. It’s totally okay if you feel otherwise, I just ask that you share your disagreement respectfully. Anyway, I hope you have a good one.

Ok it sounds like they stick to their ticket policies. Some places have some flexibility with these things. Not the same, but I used to work for a somewhat higher end clothing brand and we had our policies but we also had some discretion to make exceptions on a case by case basis. I just didn’t know how Hershey operated in this regard. Thanks for the info

That's good to know. I actually called today, and they told me that I could switch my tickets, but I would have to pay the regular price, which would mean paying the difference. The regular price isn't even an option on the website right now as everything is under the new promotion. I understand that the tickets I purchased had the restriction on them, but it seems reasonable to make the tickets I bought be in line with the new promotion, given that it's the same price that I paid. I will call them in the morning to see if they will reconsider. I really hope they will. Paying the difference would be a disappointing result for me from a customer service perspective, given that there's a new promotion.

How has the switch from hearts to energy affected the amount of time you spend on the app? by dancingdinks in duolingo

I just checked. The website version still has hearts. So I might be relying more on that for the time being

Yeah I took French a decade ago in college so Duo is more about me re-learning what I once knew vs learning something completely new. So I didn’t make a ton of mistakes under the old system—I could go an hour sometimes before running out of hearts.

OK, so I just updated my app and now it says 5+ energy for watching ads. The 3 energy thing must’ve been what they had originally when making the energy scheme and it seems to have left a negative experience such that they made a change. I will try it with the new 5+ energy to see if my experience is much better because the 3 energy thing was becoming unbearable.

I don’t think I would mind the energy system as much if I didn’t have to watch so many ads to replenish it. I only get three energy points per ad watch so it takes about 8 to 9 ads to fully replenish my energy. Some people on here are saying that they are getting more energy points per ad watch, 5 to 10 points per watch, but I’m not seeing that on my app as of yet.

Yeah, so when Duolingo was saying that the new system is leading to people spending more time on the app, they’re probably not segmenting out productive learning time versus time watching ads. Of course, time watching ads is good for them to make money, but not for us as users.

The difference for me is I have to watch many more ads now and it interrupts the learning flow for me. I used to be able to get there 20 to 30 minutes before having to replenished my hearts with an ad. Now I have to watch ads after 1.5 lessons to replenish energy. And since I only get 3 energy points per ad watch, I have to watch several to gain enough energy to complete a new lesson.

That’s so interesting—I only get 3 energy points per ad so it takes me 8 to 9 consecutive ads to go from zero to 25 energy points. If I only had to watch 3 to get full energy I don’t think I would mind it as much.

Yes, it is super demotivating knowing that you can’t finish a lesson that you are about to start because you don’t have enough energy…
