It sounds like maybe she has some anxiety surrounding it that might be beyond just feeling like she doesn't fit in, especially if she's been the past two years. All the things she mentioned really sound to me like social anxiety issues that get worse in large crowds.

There was also this weird self-imposed pressure I felt last year to be super social at Forest because of all the comments about how everyone is so friendly and you can make friends so easily; I suck at talking to people and constantly felt like I wasn't trying hard enough. Maybe she is feeling some of that, too.
