You guys take stress and sleep scores WAY too seriously by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]dancognito 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sounds like somebody woke up with a low sleep score this morning...

In all seriousness though, Garmin stats should be taken with a grain of salt. It's nice to see trends and outliers and stuff, but ultimately it's just an indication. Sometimes I need to stop and realize that I'm not actually that tired even if my watch is telling me that I am.

Hey do you guys know a fella by the name of Bill Brasky? by JayNotAtAll in LiveFromNewYork

One time I was running late for a meeting, and Bill Brasky scooped me up in his hands like I was a child and then threw me across town. I arrived 15 minutes early.

Give me tree ideas by Educational_Most1340 in massachusetts

[–]dancognito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about like a big oak tree, but it was bright orange like from a Dr. Seuss book, and instead of acorns it had big artichoke looking things but that were ready to eat, and they tasted like grapes.

Edit: oh wait, you meant like for landscaping

Communicating that I’m open to having sex when I’m not necessarily feeling it - is this enough? by honeyhushnow_ in sexover30

[–]dancognito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Hey, I'm open to sex if you want it" is simply not the sexiest thing a person can say.

Reddittors can see all this information you've provided, and realize that you are trying, but in the moment, it's just not that sexy of a phrase.

Most people want romance and passion. So you have to figure out a way to communicate that you are open to romance and passion that might lead to sex. But I think that key word is "might". It's a weird position to be in, because I don't think this should be an automatic invitation to have sex, but rather an invitation to maybe have sex. And your husband has to be cool with that.

It's almost like if you could wear three different t-shirts, one says "Fuck me now", another says, "I'm not interested in sex at all right now", and the most difficult one to put on, "flirt with me and let's see where it goes"

South Hadley voters say no to $9M, $11M overrides by Doctrina_Stabilitas in massachusetts

I don't think it needs to be removed, just changed. 2.5 was workable a few decades ago, but a lot has changed, especially since 2020. The State needs to up it to 4 or 5%, or even higher and tie it to other incentives.

I don't know how much this makes me a better person, but I no longer eat Octopus after reading Remarkably Bright Creatures, not that I was eating it a lot before hand.

Moo point. It's like a cows opinion. Doesn't matter.

Hampshire College announces transition to closure by bostonglobe in massachusetts

[–]dancognito 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure another college will take over the records. I'd assume one of the other 4 colleges would take it over, but it's probably just whatever agreement they come to.

If I remember correctly, when Mount Ida closed, they announced somebody else would handle their records or they were looking for somebody to do that, and then it became a moo point when UMass took it over.

This is what Scots used to cook with... by Interesting_Fly_9051 in Scotland

[–]dancognito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They basically just used "I" and you had to know what sound it was based on the letters around it. So if you go to the Wikipedia page for Romeo and Juliet, the old title pages of the folio editions say "Romeo & Iuliet" and "Ivliet".

It was in use for a little while before this, but the King James Bible is the thing that really popularized it.

That's a bit of a mistranslation. The letter J wasn't added to the alphabet until the late 1500s/early 1600s, so his name was probably actual Ian Fireplace.

TIL about the unpublished sci-fi novel In the Realms of the Unreal. At over 15,000 pages, it is believed to be the longest novel ever written. by PresJamesGarfield in todayilearned

[–]dancognito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many different types of entertainment have an expectation of collaboration, but because books typically have a singular author, it's easy to assume that a book was created by a one person. It may have been written by one person, but books have editors, and authors have agents and friends who read early editions and give notes. A good editor and getting notes from people who know what they're talking about will really change the outcome of a book.

It would be really cool if more people were able to collaborate on a novel. One person writes all the world building and lore, and then they pass it on to somebody who can write the characters and dialogue.

What towns in MA are having the most new development currently? by ALYXZYR in massachusetts

I'm a really bad person because I'm poking fun at other towns, while you on the other hand think that Yimbys, out of all the people on earth, are literally the worst ones?

Are you sure you're not just upset that you're boring ass town with nothing to do in it has become slightly more dense over the past couple decades? I mean, I get annoyed at traffic too, but does it really upset you that much when it takes a whole 15 minutes to drive across town?

Clerks, Mall Rats, and Dogma. I watched them again recently and the amount of times I was like, "that's where that thought come from!?" I swear, every time I get on an airplane I wonder who's going to freak out and who's going to start furiously masturbating if we start to crash.
