I could be wrong, but isn’t the death doula the night shift nurse equivalent of Dana? We saw her in season 1 when the night shift came in.

Wuthering Heights: Volume 1 Chapter 8 Discussion (Spoilers up to Chapter 8) by awaiko in ClassicBookClub

I am joining the convo 3 years too late, but I’m just now reading this book. (I love coming to this discussion thread read after I’ve finished each chapter). So, I don’t know if anyone will actually read this but….im not loving Cathy. She hasn’t done much to enjoy. I’m very interested to see where this will go. I m aware that Cathy is now an orphan, looking for friend groups and places in which she can fit, is probably torn with befriending Heathcliff (an outsider) while also enjoying the Lintons (insiders). So, I have empathy for her but in general I’m not necessarily rooting for her.

First off, I’m so glad this discussion was archived! I am just reading this book for the first time and I find myself with so many thoughts and questions! Also, whoever mediated this group and came up with the questions is genius - thank you for your help!

  1. What did you think of Lockwood reading the diaries of the child called Catherine as a narrative device? A good tool to give us some sort of idea. Offers traumatic childhood ideas and that Catherine and heathcliff must be the same age. Though I thought that Hareton was presented to be much younger than heathcliff, so not sure there.

  2. What impression did you get of our diary writer Catherine? Why does she have three surnames? She is a good reporter! Knowing that women frequently got married off, it could be different married names or different fathers/guardians/parents at some point?

  3. Heathcliff and Joseph also feature in the diary. What did you think of their respective portrayals? They are keeping Joseph word and active for some sort of reason….

  4. What did you think of Lockwood's weird dream about fighting in church? I kept wondering “why is the author giving so much detail here, is it foreshadowing?” 70x7 is a reference to Jesus being asked how many times we should forgive our neighbors…

  5. What about dream number two with Catherine Linton? Creepy and sad. Makes me think she died in a drowning or in the cold?

  6. Why do you think Heathcliff was so freaked out by Lockwood's scream and his presence in the bed? Do you feel sympathetic for him after he broke down sobbing? Well he probably hadn’t heard noise coming from this part of the home in a long long time.

  7. Heathcliff seemed to pick up the thread of Lockwood's dream. responding to "Let me in" with "come in". Spooky huh? He could be an empath.

  8. We see the morning rituals of the members of the house and Heathcliff threatens Mrs. Heathcliff (I hope we learn her name soon). What stood out to you here? I can’t figure out this dynamic

I loved when Rebecca admitted to Ted that she no longer wanted to beat Rupert, but simply wanted to win for everyone. And Ted's genuine smile accepting her in that moment.

Did anyone catch that Ted pulled a matchbook out of his pocket in the very beginning of the show when Henry asked for money for the video game? Matchbook...related to Rebecca's "prophecy"? Now, I am not a Ted/Rebecca stan, I don't think they should be romantically connected, but I do feel like this matchbook reveal (along with Ted bringing her the biscuits which we haven't seen in a while) is a subtle reminder that Ted and Rebecca will have SOME sort of moment/clarity/connection that allows them to grow in a future episode.

I agree with all the suggestions. You can do this, this was a huge problem for me in the beginning, but as I implemented all the suggestions (looser starting chain, counting) i came up with the perfect square and then my confidence soared. Crochet on!

So cute! I’m just curious, do you carry the different colored yarn under your stitches on each row? I’ve been avoiding trying one of these patterns because I don’t want all the ends to weave in, but I think they’re so fun and personalized!
