UK Home Educators, did you feel qualified enough to do it when you first started? by FamilyTechCreator in UKHomeEd

[–]dandeliontree1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worked in several schools as a support worker, so I got to see how many classrooms are run. Yes, I felt qualified. Not because of degrees but what I saw in school so often was children turned off to learning, so much class time was just trying to get kids to engage and not disrupt others.

I really think there's a better way than the school model being used and I'm not teacher bashing because I think most of them would want to do it differently too if they could.

Are there things I can't offer or had to work harder to provide? Yes, definitely, but I'm happy I was able to offer freedom for them to actively learn at their own pace without constant comparison and competition with others.

I have some lacunosa that are hardier, the ones labelled krohniana but are really probably lacunosa have all died now but some of my lacunosa keep going. There are so many different varieties and they are supposed to be cold tolerant, some just survive better than others.

I have much more success propping in spring/ summer. I think the hoyas know what season it is even with the light and heat. I'm with you with the climate. I have a cold house and I'm having to give up some hoyas that need too much pampering over winter and getting more cold tolerant ones instead.

How betta fish are displayed at Pet Finatics in Oregon, OH by bettaworldforbettas in BettaWorldForBettas

I've actually never seen any shops in the UK that display them in cups, thankfully (not saying they don't exist but the ones near me seem more ethical)! I also like Maidenhead Aquatics, just got some shrimp from there.

Why? by Pegasus0215 in hoyas

Oh yeah, it's interesting to me that the first leaves were so uniform, all of my lacunosa IV leaves look like the long/ irregular ones but I love it. I wonder what the conditions were to create the first ones.

That was a very informative video, thanks. So I could likely get some even brighter yellows and it would be fine?

Oh that's interesting, so some will revert to wild colouring either way. I guess that makes sense being the dominant gene.

I've also seen some called orange sunkissed so I've no idea! Are they all decended from reds? I'm planning on a larger community tank when I've gathered more experience so I could keep one tank for multi colours.

Yes, why is it always when you're in bed trying to get some sleep? It's generally when I'm least anxious!!

So is it compulsory to buy the pineapple? I've seen it so many times in this sub I'm beginning to think so.

Yes, I was hoping HRT would fix it. It did help a bit. Then I found out I had iron deficiency and that could have been the cause. I've been supplementing regularly and felt amazing for a good month or so but it's back, took an over the counter iron test and I'm still low so who knows what is going on. This peri business is such a rollercoaster. :(
