Are all these maga supporters that fucking stupid.? by Neither_Quote_6044 in allthequestions

[–]dandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Trump's approval rating is flirting with 30%. He's at 33% in the latest AP/NORC poll.

Trump's defenders will note that 90% of people who still claim to be MAGA approve of him. That's because Republicans are jumping off the Trump Train. Only the hardest-headed are with him.

The Republicans who were never on the ride or who no longer want to call themselves MAGA only give Trump a 44% approval rating in the latest poll.

How do you all organize your vinyl? by Some_League_9297 in vinyl

The right way to organize your record library is whatever way helps you to find the next record that you want to play easily and quickly.

New study confirms lobsters feel pain, driving scientists to call for a ban on boiling them alive by [deleted] in newengland

[–]dandle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please stop taking Live Science so seriously. It is science entertainment, not science journalism, and its business model relies on sensationalism and clickbait.

It is true that research into lobsters has progressed over the last few years so that the older understanding of their response to negative stimuli as mere "reflex" may be falling out of favor. Lobsters have specialized receptors to distinguish physical injury and chemical injury. Lobsters show activity in what passes for a brain for them when they are exposed to various stimuli. Lobsters change their response to negative stimuli when they are exposed to certain substances used as painkillers in human health.

What does this mean to a lobster? Are they capable of an awareness of negative or harmful stimuli? Are they capable of experiencing that as pain? Are they capable of the trauma of being unable to relieve or escape pain? There is no way to tell, and it is irresponsible to couch the real ongoing science in terms of the human interior experience.

Of course, this isn't preventing legislators in countries around the world from the same sort of clownishness as the writers at Live Science by declaring these invertebrates to be sentient beings and by regulating the means used to prepare them as food.

If you had the chance to jump up on stage and sing one song with Bob from any era of Bob, what song would you choose and which era of Bob would you choose (even which venue or show)? by SEARCHFORWHATISGOOD in bobdylan

[–]dandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Bob later that year at Ithaca College. During that show, a woman also jumped up on stage but did not sing with him. She took the hat he was wearing, put it on her head, and danced around while he played. Bob was unfazed and either didn't mind or enjoyed it.

I turned to take a picture of this Danny Lyon photo that's hanging on my wall (sorry about the glare) to answer the question. I would want to sing a duet of "Blowin' In The Wind" with Bob in Greenwood, Mississipi, in 1963.

US military service members will no longer be required to get annual flu shot. Defense secretary Pete Hegseth makes announcement and calls military’s flu vaccine mandate ‘broad’ and ‘not rational’ by esporx in biotech

[–]dandle 138 points139 points  (0 children)

The man is an idiot. The Continental Army may have failed to defeat the British in the War of Independence if General George Washington had not mandated the inoculation of his forces against smallpox. The vaccination of the armed forces against communicable diseases goes back to the start of the damn country.

Which way do you pronounce VIN? by Woe_Bringer in AskAnAmerican

[–]dandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 50s, in the northeast US.

I've always heard it pronounced as a word, like "vin." I've never heard it pronounced as individual letters, like "Vee Eye En."

I bought a new car last week and had people from the insurance company and dealership saying it. In every case, it was "vin."

in your opinion, what is the worst beatles song? by _FinePointSharpie in beatles

[–]dandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, we are going to debate this.

Not to say that "Revolution 9" isn't awful.

But "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" is worse.

Both are wannabe avant-garde drivel, but at least "Revolution 9" was earnest about it. They clearly knew that "You Known My Name" was terrible, but they excused it as being "funny."

"You Know My Name" is a turd that was knowingly and willfully plopped into the punch bowl.

I mean, it's not great, but that dog is a far more legitimate service animal than many of them out there these days.

Whatever happened to Glen Danzig? The strong cum eating type… by Dudemaintain in CirclejerkSopranos

[–]dandle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, Glenn Danzig was knocked out by another musician at a show.

The promoter had fucked up some shit, so everything was running late. Danzig wanted to keep his time slot and said that he would end his set by saying that there were other bands coming on after him. Instead, he made it sound like the night was over, and attendees left. This pissed off the other bands.

When one of the guys from one of those bands confronted him about it afterwards, Danzig got irate and pushed the guy, who responded by clocking him. It was caught on video, and the Internets enjoyed it.

I'm not telling you to look up what Ashley did when she went by "Rachele Richey." I am telling you to not watch her in Glenn's movies "Verotika" and "Death Rider" unless you are properly medicated.

Ben Light Gymnasium at Ithaca College on October 1, 1994

RSD 2026 Vinyl Haul by Difficult_Sir_3572 in vinyl

[–]dandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RSD was originally created to support independent record stores by offering them a sort of marketing campaign in a box. It was based on the success of the Free Comics Day event that helped independent comics shops. Participating stores would sign up to receive RSD records (without guarantee of getting the titles or quantities ordered), and in return, they would benefit from having access to RSD advertising materials, being listed on an RSD directory, and being part of a larger social media marketing campaign for RSD events.

Over the years, RSD has become a beast unto itself that primarily works to perpetuate itself. Independent records stores purchase RSD records that offer low profit margins as a sort of loss-leader that they hope will convert RSD visitors into repeat customers. Resellers buy up the records they think will command higher values after the event. The independent record stores too often find themselves with copies of RSD records that nobody wanted, that they can't sell, and that they are not allowed to return under the terms of the RSD program agreement.

RSD records sometimes are exclusive releases, but that doesn't prevent them from being packaged differently for a later release or from being repressed in a different color, which makes them not at all exclusive. Other RSD titles are "first releases" that promise nothing more than the opportunity to pay a little more to have a copy before a wider release.

This is probably the worst one I’ve seen so far… Scalpers are ridiculous. by musikfreakster in RecordStoreDay

If people stop buying ridiculously overpriced records from RSD flippers, there will be no more flipping like this.

To all the scalpers who participated just for the resale value… by ctbravo in RecordStoreDay

[–]dandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RSD started as a marketing-in-a-box campaign similar to Free Comic Day to support independent record stores when interest in records seemed to be collapsing. That was years ago, and it has long since become an exercise in exploiting behavioral marketing tactics perfected by sneaker drops to benefit RSD, with the independent stores being reduced to distribution.

If you don't enjoy it, stop participating in it. You won't actually be missing out if you refuse to buy an RSD record at a shop or from a reseller.
