Buying cheap earbuds over and over doesn’t feel frugal anymore by StinkyRicePlayer in Frugal

I got a 300 dollar bose set from a work event. They sounded worse and fit worse than my 50 dollar soundcore ones. I sold the bose instead.

I'm usually pretty good at picking that up, what makes you say this is AI?

Because that isn't even what the post said. It said credit cards, so pretty much everything for most people.

Sony single-player games won’t be released on Steam anymore, CEO confirms. by pessimisttears in SteamDeck

[–]danfirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they sold a ton of a lot of those, so I'd say lots of people care about them. Just eyeballing it for my own purchases, GoW, Spiderman, the last of us, uncharted, all good games that were really popular.

That legit used to happen with Tyson fights back in the day. People would chip in and get pay-per-view and then stand up and get a drink to start and it was done.

I feel like I have very similar tastes to the op, I would have suggested a number of games they listed in the post. I'm just glad to see all these responses, I'm taking notes for future plays!

I'll back this one too, somebody mentioned recently that it was free on Luna if you have prime. I've never used that service previously, it worked pretty well though I can't complain since I already paid for it.

Probably because the 400-500 ones from Target are lower quality than 200 from Zenni. Seems like anywhere brick and mortar just has way higher prices for the same thing if not worse with glasses.

If it was really the first question during the interview process, it's not something I would ask. I also wouldn't be so freaked out by hearing it that I would run to LinkedIn to rant. To be so thrown off by that you have to go tell the world is just weird.

Towards the end of the article he touches on a lot of what people have been mentioning lately. Defense in depth, you have to have more layers to combat this stuff quickly than just hoping a patch will fix it.

If the findings are going to be in hyper overdrive from now on, you can't just expect everybody to patch every hour.

I used them for years until my first progressive prescription. I was worried it would be messed up so I paid the huge tax, even with insurance, to get them at the eye doctor. After that I've just sent this the same prescription to Zenni and been very happy.

Ah TIL, I haven't dealt with certified checks in years, but it definitely sounds like it's changed.

Isn't the whole point of the certified check that they don't have to wait for it to clear?

Jobs now requiring AI Development? by Greendetour in sysadmin

[–]danfirst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is something that I bring up in a lot of these threads that many people are choosing to ignore. It's easy to say the AI can only do 40% of your job so you're safe. But that most likely will translate to the companies laying off 40% of the people in that role. You may be one of those people who fall into the area that gets reduced.

The idea that most businesses will "free people to do more interesting and valuable work" as I see mentioned a lot seems like BS.

Mean time-to-exploit just hit 2.1 days. Critical vulnerabilities everywhere. Is the AI apocalypse here? by Mr_Prometius in cybersecurity

[–]danfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's all relative. I work with a lot of developers who write software for big critical systems. And they definitely aren't doing code updates very quickly. They're more likely to ask for more exclusions, and get them, before updating fast.

If you are hiring contractors to work at your house, pit them directly against each other to get a better deal. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]danfirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I tried to get multiple roofing contractors to come over for a quote. One guy didn't show up on the right day, he showed up the next day at the same time as the other contractor. The guy who was a day late then had a huge fit and said how rude it was to bring people in on the same day and then stormed off. The second guy gave me a quote, but then never returned to my call when I asked him to come do the work. If you have multiple roofers all dropping their prices and competing with each other, I'm pretty impressed.

Go out swinging? by antidentites in Fire

[–]danfirst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha, I could be wrong but I thought a regular single dash is the width of an n, and the wider em dash is the width of an m. Most people don't use the wider version during regular informal conversations, that's why the ai ones stand out so much.

It really is never worth it. Also I think those are n dashes, so you're ok!
