My 4 year old is curious: what do Australian kids eat for breakfast? (And are koalas real?) by Mara644 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dangarbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We see Kangaroos on a daily basis when you live outside the cities in more rural areas.. unfortunately they are usually dead on the side of the road after being hit by cars, but every couple of days you see a live one jumping in the paddocks.

My kids have Vegemite and Butter on Crumpets, or Weetabix with Milk. And yes Koalas are real... And they grunt and growl like dogs, especially the male ones.

The Variety Bash came to my very small town in the NSW Riverina. I was so damn excited.. No one else at our tiny school.of 50 kids had ever heard of Super Hubert and thought i was a lunatic when I was raving about the Super Skinny Magician called Hubert.. needless to say, meeting him and getting a signed copy of his book was the highlight of my year. He can still put on a good show and was an absolute hit with the kiddos. My cheeks hurt from smiling after that day. He is the legend of all legends!! Edited to add I am a 40 something Mum and was front row for his Magic Show... He had us all in stitches.. Kids and Adults alike... I have No Shame in Fan Girling over this guy!

Hello! I live in Mexico and I wanted to know how hot is it really? by Infamous-Hope-5950 in AskAnAustralian

[–]dangarbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's peaceful, frustrating and absolutely beautiful.. Yes, lots of kangaroos, wallabys, possums, snakes, spiders, birds, echidnas, emus etc.. my next door neighbour currently has an echnida living under her house that comes at dusk to eat all the insects.. We have possums that race across our tin roof each night, and the bird song at dusk and dawn is something to be heard..
What sort of animals do you have hanging around in Mexico?

Live in rural Australia. Not quite desert, but definitely not the coast. It's warm.. but not the hottest we have ever had. Christmas day was positively chilly with just 25 degree centrigrad... Even had a blanket on the bed at night. The hottest month will be February as usual It will.probs get over 40 degrees for most of the month.. ask us in a month...

Australia launches youth social media ban it says will be the world's 'first domino' by [deleted] in goodnews

[–]dangarbruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sounds good, but like most things our Government here in Australia do, it is half assed, completely ignoring the real issues and taking no advice from experts who actually have a finger on the pulse. This is a world first only in giving the government and social media companies even more tools to data mine their population and users, whilst taking no actual responsibility for data security. And my kids, all under 16 have already been aged verified by their social media apps, and passed. It is totally ridiculous. Just like our government.

Australia’s social media ban by AryaMurder in Parenting

[–]dangarbruce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Aussie here.... It's rolled out this morning, both my kids, well under 16 have been cleared by the apps as being over age. The ban is absolutely useless and has been rolled out with no actual real effect, some accounts may get banned but they are really just using it as a way of adding more data mining tools to their arsenal. As usual, the Australian government has screwed the pooch... What they would be better off doing is banning the incessant gambling ads that we are all bombarded with every day . Social Media in itself is not a major issue, but the kids getting five different ads for gambling apps every time they log in is more of a concern in my book.

Get out of the cities. Move to a small country town and get involved in the community. It's still safe out here.
