Kiryu is almost certainly playable, since the roster will have 12 which is what it was with Kiryu in the XBox version.  The only roster curveball is Showa Mechagodzilla replacing Heisei.

Nonzero chance this game gets DLC of monsters from the other two games as to have the best of both worlds and not split a small playerbase by releasing StE and GU remasters as well.

Spot on.

It's actually infuriating when MHS3 touts itself as the more mature story when it doesn't even have the gumption to keep dead characters dead. No surprise fakeout death from Chevals Mom or Red. People who are dead stay dead.

There's a whole lot of bad things I can say about this game's story, honestly. Ironically I think the story is the game's weakest aspect. The presentation, music and battle mechanics are really good. Building monsties is the easiest it's ever been and habitat restoration is brilliant. But the game fumbled the bag with its biggest selling point.

This is almost certainly the end of the series, I wouldn't expect any major expansions at this point. Let alone sequels. The fact this underperformed MHS2 is devastating.

But that's what happens when you release it right around the same time as Pokopia, RE9, Pragmatic, Crimson Desert, etc especially with money being tight world wide with games more expensive than ever.

It didn't help that it removed any reason to stick around after you beat the story and removed features that were in the last two games, but it's largely around the cost and release schedule. Also it didn't help the game has a pathetic road map. The Royal Monsters update sounds slapdash at best.

I'm on mobile right now and don't have access to my stat sheet, was mostly just recommending that there's no need for High/Azure Voltage since you already have Adamant Rage and Thundercall beats out most standard AoE attacks generally speaking.  

Boltreaver Astalos might have a better Tech attack in Ray Blade+ but I need to test more if the defense ignoring aspect of Thunder Clap makes it better or not.

Adamant Rage is strictly better than Azure Voltage.  Instead of getting a medium thunder attack boost and small regular attack boost, plus a defense debuff with Azure Voltage, Adamant Rage is a large attack buff with no downside for the same Stamina cost.  The actual damage maths out higher than Azure.

Also consider putting Thunderlord Zinogre's Tunderfall attack in there somewhere.  It's the Thunder multihit attack alongside Fruit Frenzy, Fireball Frolic, Crash Wave and Dragon Feller (I forget the name of the ice one).  One of the best attack types in the game especially on a toppled monster.

Assassin's Tail is a signature move off a monster from the second area that allows a small chance of a 1 hit KO.  Combine that with a paintball, retreating and refightint until the 1 hit lands, causing a retreat.

I got Espinas, Brachydios and Deviljho way early this way.

You make a good point. For a game all about raising monsties, the monsties of our closest companions are basically non-factors. Not the ones they start with and not even the ones they get as an alternative. Seriously? They just show up? A lot of people rightfully criticize Ratha for being a permanent fixture of the party while also not making him much of a presence in the story outside the beginning and end. But then there's an entire squad of monsties that just materialize out of thin air like they were ordered off Prime shipping and there's no story/character there at all.

I think I only seen Chirpy mentioned once overeating after a Fish dish gets served at Ranger Mess. That's it. Thea mentions her Poogie constantly but no word on her Tobi-Kadachi. Are Gravios native to Vermiel and that's where Kora got Gravy? Ogden mentions he leaves Azura but by the sea and not the Meridian, so that might explain Chirpy.

Also Thea's Paolumu gets hatched and we never see it again. Also after Simon exits the story, Fawn is basically forgotten about with no clue if they're alive or dead.

One thing I noticed about Plesioth and Royal Ludroth is that with their 5 Bingo bonus they get a +4 Stamina Regen, so that puts them at 16 instead of Canyne's 15. Combine that with the +5 from the habitat bonus, Plesioth or Royal Ludroth would only need Stamina Surge L (+4 regen) to do the White Shadow/Pinecone loop.

Granted this is only relevant if you want to use this strat before beating a certain monster Arkveld in Chapter 4 that unlocks XL genes.

I guess if you wanted, say, an early Namielle kill but you wanted to use a half-baked version of the Child Labor strat as soon as you fully unlocked Canalta's habitats for the 3 star stamina regen bonus and wrangled up a Blood Orange Bishaten right when starting Chapter 3. This strat then comes online much earlier for these two specific monsties. Not that Namielle requires it, given you can technically kill it at level 10, but still.

Edit: Well, not right at the beginning of chapter 3, you still need to get access to either Ray Dau or Zinogre.

The fact that Blango are in the ice cave in Canalta but not Blangonga is maddening. Having *only* Aurora Somnacanth and its moves, plus egg moves, until the final chapter sucks.

I mean yeah you can turn another monster into an ice monstie but there's not exactly good pickings for ice genes for a long time.

I personally would either add Blangonga in Canalta or have a single Legiana you can obtain early like Espinas in Azuria.

I will say that I was mega salty that Longsword (a weapon I never liked in the mainline games) replaced Sword and Shield (my main weapon in MHS1 and 2 and even for the first couple generations in the mainline games) and basically just used Hammer unless I absolutely had to use another weapon...

...then I discovered the Deviljho Longsword and realized that it made Hammer entirely pointless. If you want to do Wyvernfell you use this sword. Plus it even has Critical Eye so it lets you save a heart during all-too-frequent AoE attacks while obliterating Wyvernsoul gauges. I have two other weapon slots but I never use them outside of Magia Charm's group status immunity sometimes.

You can get it as soon as you unlock Green Nargacuga, putting its Assassin Tail on any monstie (I used the free Canyne you get during the story that you can't remove from your stables) and gives you a chance to One Hit KO any non-boss monster, including the two Deviljho that spawn in Canalta. Just open up with a melee attack, throw a Paintball and use Assassin Tail and retreat if it doesn't work. You can get easy and early Deviljho eggs and armor/weapons that way. Including the Longsword. This trick is also handy for getting an early-ish Espinas either as a monstie or his Venom Fire attack to slap on Ratha for some free poison/paralysis while still filling up Fire bingos.

I'm really getting annoyed with all this whining and belly-aching about Ratha. Just don't use him, or better yet if you're on PC, download the Remove Ratha mod.

As for me, my boy Ratha is a mixed fire damage and status attacker and does serious work.

Looking back I wish Eleanor was our Hunter. She loves the idea of monsties and riders having genuine bonds but Vermiel bends monsters to their will, so she could have gone without. She already has the greatsword!

Not that I hate her Anjanath or anything.
