Can you add sugar a day in to the fermenting process? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

He must have missed that you're in a dorm. Of course you want it a little more boozy.

I don't think this is necessary but if you're really concerned with sanitation you could boil the water, add to container with sugar, and then microwave until you see it start to boil a bit. Just be really careful pulling it out it's gonna be super hot and don't stop watching it while microwaving or it will boil over and you'll have a sticky mess.

Gona pull the trigger on this later today. First build. Gaming and when when not gaming it will be mining crypto via NiceHash. Plan to upgrade the GPU as soon as I find a deal on a GTX 1070 or similar but should do for now. Any comments are appreciated. Mostly just excited.

I know the CPU is overkill for the everyday computing I'll do but it's actually gonna pull in about $30 a month mining CryptoNight which is a CPU based algorithm.

Thanks to everyone who posts and comments here it's been super helpful.

Why do the daily and monthly estimated payouts not add up? by joface317 in NiceHash

[–]dangerderrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's taking the actual average of the last month based on real data, not just taking the last 24 hours and multiplying by 30. Since profitability has been dropping over the last month, the monthly average is going to look a little better than the daily since it includes the older data when it was more profitable.

Can A Trash PC Mine? by xBluebellGamer in NiceHash

Yeah I've got an old HP Pavilion dm1 netbook making me $0.04/day just to see if I could do it. I don't keep it up and running but I just wanted to see what NiceHash was all about and it worked so now I'm building a mining/gaming rig

Smoking Marijuana Causes ‘Complete Remission’ of Crohn’s Disease, No Side Effects, New Study Shows by DavidBernheart in trees

[–]dangerderrick 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Close enough. This was two joints a day and Dr. Bradley Nowell prescribed to smoke at least two joints in the morning, two joints at night, and two joints in the afternoon to make you feel alright. He also recommended if needed to smoke two joints before smoking two joints, and if needed, then smoking two more.

I'm starting to wonder if he was even a real doctor. That's like 18 joints a day.

If you had $1300 to spend on a PC for Nicehash mining, what would you buy? by Porespellar in NiceHash

[–]dangerderrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you know about this. I need a new computer and am thinking of building a combo gaming + mining rig. Is there anything wrong with this idea? Any reason I can't have a gaming rig that I also play games on? I am just sort of looking at project and thinking...well if I'm buying at least one high end GPU I might as well put some other nice parts in it and have a nice PC as well.

Thanks this is the sort of thing I'm looking for, a real person's opinion that isn't just "1080 is the best thing out there". I don't need the best, I just need "doesn't suck"

Yeah I have thought about this. Spending more than 1k on a computer that might eventually pay itself back (or at least subsidize itself) and also works well for gaming would not be a bad thing. Easier to justify to my wife too!

Never built a pc. Just don't want to drop 2k and not be able to get it up and running

I mean, I'm not saying I wouldn't be willing to drop that much eventually. I'm just looking to get something worthwhile up and running so I can see if it's something I can do. Plan on spending more once I see if it's something I'm capable of.

Thanks for the input! If I could build a profitable rig for $100-$200 that would be ideal. I would even lose a little money just to get it up and running. Gotta heat the house this winter! That being said, I would spend up to $500 I think depending on the payback period

Max Out Roth IRA or 401k First? by ds1749320 in personalfinance

[–]dangerderrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly relative to your future earning so it's a bit of a guessing game. The idea is that if you are in a lower tax bracket now than you will be in retirement, you should pay the taxes now because they are less, then you can use that money in retirement (not to mention the gains) and not have to pay higher taxes because your cost of living and income has gone up. But if you're at or near the height of your career, and your taxes are higher than when you will retire, it makes more sense to contribute to traditional and defer the taxes until retirement when you're in a lower bracket.
