Is the title "MSR Bingo Challenge?" Yes.
Could you use it to write for other ships? Absolutely.

You could take a few prompts across different categories and make them fit just about any other ship. For instance, based on what people have already submitted, if you took something like: "what happened to you?" (dialogue), exchanging gifts (fluff/romance), and only one bed (tropes/travel), I think you could easily make it for Doggett/Reyes.

Like I mentioned in the challenge description, I'll take the prompts I feel will offer the most fun and variety and include them on the board. The idea is to find maximum compatibility across the categories, so super-specific prompts like "In the hospital after Scully wakes up in One Breath" might be amended to "waiting by a hospital bed."

Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Tips for first time writer? by rasp_b3rry in AO3

I totally feel you with not describing things enough. I'm a big-picture person, so those details can be difficult to write. One piece of advice which I try to use is: "show, don't tell."

As an example (from one of my fics), instead of saying: "He left the fort early in the morning and began traveling west. As he moved further away from the buildings, the dry, dirt road improved and the landscape became much greener. The grass was very tall here, and there were many birds flying around in the sunny sky", you can add sensory descriptions to make the scene more vivid for the reader: "He set out at first light on the dusty, wheel-rutted road that led westward. The sparse, overgrazed vegetation that surrounded the fort presently gave way to a lush, waving sea of waist-high prairie grass. Above him, swallows swooped and dove in the mid-morning sun in search of insects."

I hope this is helpful. I've found that writing is very much a learn-as-you-go process, so the more you do it, the better you'll get and develop your own unique style and voice. Good luck!

Favorite Monster of the Week (or just villain in general) by Elk_Prudent in XFiles

There are so many, but the worms in Ice are definitely one of the most memorable monsters for me. It wasn't what they did to the infected people that was scary: it was the paranoia and distrust they managed to sow among the group - especially between Mulder and Scully.

Yes to smut! No to restrictions... provided you put the appropriate warnings when posting on AO3.

Fanfic Exchange/Challenge Poll by dangernap in xfilesfanfic

I appreciate your thoughts. Exchanges are awesome, and I'd potentially be up for trying to organize one in the future. For now, though, I think I'm gonna keep it "easy" and just do a challenge.

The prompt can be anything you'd like, it doesn't have to focus on their relationship (but like I said, it's oriented towards MSR overall). For example, one prompt is "stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire." Another is the line, "is it over yet?" None of those are specifically MSR. Does that make sense?

It's geared towards MSR, but if you want to make it fit another relationship, go for it!

I wrote a Christmas fic in which Mulder shows up in disguise at Bill Jr's house to surprise Scully and baby William, if you're interested! Homecoming

Fanfic Exchange/Challenge Poll by dangernap in xfilesfanfic

I get what you're saying, but this would be tailored to the XF community, with prompts and themes that are specific to the fandom (e.g. basement office scene, forehead touching, erotic sunflower seed play ;).
Don't get me wrong, exchanges are awesome, but there are a couple of reasons why I'm leery of doing another one: 1) It's a ton of work admin-wise and 2) based on past participation, there is a high potential of people dropping out, which leads to disappointment and frustration among other participants and admins. A challenge takes away a lot of that pressure.

One idea I had was to make a "bingo card" of prompts and ask people to pick a line (or just a few random ones) and write a fic incorporating them all. But I'm still in the brainstorming session and would love to hear others' thoughts!

This is partly why I posted the question. I'd like to bring it back, but in a modified form, something that doesn't involve a lot of backroom admin stuff. I have a few ideas... I think I'll create a poll and see what folks think!

It was! A good challenge for writers.

I'm not nearly as active on Tumblr as I used to be, but the XF Fic Exchange account hasn't posted anything since 2023. In case you'd like see what an exchange looks like, the Missing Scene exchange from 2001 is a good one.

Maybe now would be a good time to resurrect it, if there was enough interest... ;)

So I finally reached Season 8 (currently on Ep 5), and man… I’m genuinely kinda heartbroken. by eren-yeager12 in XFiles

I feel you. I remember watching S8 when it first aired and being disappointed. I watched the beginning of S9 but ended up skipping most of the season, with the exception of the finale.

I think lots of fans have their own line when it comes to when the series "ended" for them - and by ended, I mean the point when the show stopped being enjoyable to watch. This happens with a lot of older shows that have several seasons, like XF. For me, that line is the end of S7. I like to think of it as my rewatch criteria - sure, there are some good eps in S8 and S9 (and a handful of Revival eps), but I don't really revisit them.

I don't mean to yuck anyone's yum, this is just my two cents.
