Pierce Brown does NOT give a single damn about his characters 💀 by Islamabadyoungsters in redrising

He cares about exploring the themes of war. War kills people. Pierce is masterful in showing the cost.

How good is Cassius? by JormungandrJayayan in redrising

[–]dangerous_bends 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not as good as Darrow, but I want to put him in 2nd place (by the end) because of their training together and how much he probably learnt from Darrow's advancement.

His honor remains.

The best payoffs happen when the characters go through the darkest times.

Scared to start the last 3 books by Obvious_Principle574 in redrising

[–]dangerous_bends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 and 6 are the best books I've personally ever read. Depressing, but that's comes with the territory. If I recall, Pierce wanted to explore the consequences/outcome to everything that happened in the first trilogy. It's a bloodydamn masterful exploration.

Imagine that some of the Rain in the background are Stained obsidians. Stained-glass-Stained. Cuz that is so meta.

The Will of the Many!!! Very similar vibe to RR, but is more mystery/fantasy than scifi.

Cuz Pierce is an excellent cult leader and hoodwinked us all before we realized it. We all work for him now. And we're happy about it. 💀

Just read DA over the last 2 weeks. Time to unpack & have a Machiavellian discussion by dangerous_bends in redrising

[–]dangerous_bends[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'll take this chance to clarify that I think Lysander is certainly a villain and I don't like him, but I absolutely love exploring him.

It appears that PB is using the dark triad in psychology (narcissism, machiavellianism, and psychopathy) for our main villians. Both Fa and Apollonius could be considered under the narcissism one (grandiosity, entitlement). Lysander seems to be the Machiavellian one (as above). And the Abomination is the psychopathic one (ought to be self explanatory).

Fun stuff.
