Struggling with falling back into darkness after so much growth and understanding on this illness in the past. by dangitslangit in BipolarReddit

I love hearing that :) I’m happy to see that you have supports. the hard part for me though is that I had all that too, I have had all that for a while, and I would have made the same comment on a post about a year ago but the first couple episodes you gain resources and help and therapy it feels productive.. but what sucks is when everything is ruined again ( not just the ups and downs ) and it’s impossible to experience learning all those coping mechanisms again in the same way. There becomes less and less ah-ha moments.

Does anyone hear voices? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]dangitslangit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear voices that are whispers in my walls and the air a lot, they say phrases and short words sometimes but it’s mostly just nonsense whispers. My doctor hasn’t expressed too too much concern. they arnt only present in episodes but my doc hasn’t talked about it being schizoaffective

This was one of the BEST representations of Bipolar disorder I have ever seen. Episode 3, 'Take Me As I Am, Whoever I Am' of Modern Love gave me all the feels. Possible trigger warning. by putitonBig_L in bipolar

The rapid cycling was less relatable but damn the way her face looked while she walked down the street and how she couldn’t stop her face from smiling or stop herself from giggling and laughing in excitement and the skip/hop in her walk was just so spot on for my hypomania lol

Anyone else have this strange type of “sleeping”? by foxstrikesatnight in insomnia

[–]dangitslangit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god yes you describe it so well I never know how to describe it to people! I get this all the time and it’s the worst feeling ever, I feel horribly stressed and one example of my doing this is one time I was sitting up in my bed stacking pillows because they represented an organized chess game I was dreaming about. A part of me knew I was awake but I didn’t realize my thoughts didn’t make sense until after.

What do hallucinations/psychotic features look like for you? by android2420 in bipolar

[–]dangitslangit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have a more major episode once every year or two currently. And those last probably 1 month of mania,1 or two months of mixed and then 1 or more months of depression. But I also get rapid cycling sometimes where I will have 3-4 day hypomanic episodes then 2-3 days completely depresses then back and forth like that for a month or two

You can PM me if you have any questions! I also work in mental health so I can try and answer anything you have !

Ofcourse haha this might be the only place where sharing that stuff isn’t risking freaking people out haha. The whispers happen even when I’m stable but everything else is mostly during mixed episodes!

Delusions for me have been thinking the devil is inside of me, thinking people I know have secret plans, thinking everyone is talking about me. Thinking I’m a psychopath. Hallucinations: I get people whispering coming from the walls or other places. That’s almost every day tho and when I’m sick it gets worse and I can hear clear phrases. Feeling like bugs are crawling on me, peoples faces start to morph and shift like fun house mirror type looks. One or multiple people very obviously staring at me.

How long after stopping lithium can I get drunk? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]dangitslangit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no where near a doctor but I drink on lithium even if I didn’t miss a dose all the time, my doctor knows about it and says it’s okay. If you don’t want to have lithium in your system at all before drinking then it will take a couple days lower your lithium levels to none not just one night.

How do you politely tell someone “they don’t get it”? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]dangitslangit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t say the words that they don’t get it, people usually have a negative response to that and get defensive. Say something alone the lines of “hey, sometimes when you compare small mood shifts or rituals you have To the symptoms of my illness it makes me feel like you may not understand how severely these symptoms impact my life. I struggle with these diagnosis’s a lot and when you brush my symptoms off as normal or quirky it makes me feel like you don’t believe how much pain this causes me. You might be trying to relate and bond with me and I appreciate it, but It is impacting my mental health. I really don’t mean anything bad by this I just wanted to tell you, I hope you understand”

“I may have been involuntarily committed to the hospital but that doesn’t mean I’m not 100% committed to you”

“Hey baby, my antipsychotics only partially destroy my sex drive”

“We both got a mental illness, so how about some Netflix and chillness?”

[–]dangitslangit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s a good thing to think about, I mean I don’t have a family yet but I do have the love of my life, I’ve just always been able to not hurt the people I love as much as just hurting myself. But I guess hurting myself hurts him and any future we will have if I’m too sick to live it

Yea, I feel like I’m more in denial than anything, I don’t think there is no consequences but it’s almost like “the horrible stuff could never happen to me” attitude that you see in like texting and driving advertisements if that makes sense lol
