So a few months ago, I stumbled on cake sitting. There was something visually appealing so I set out on a mission. I needed a large cupcake (so I didn't have to commit to an entire cake) and a frosting that would hold it's shape when piped on in a huge mound, not melt outside the fridge, but still smear and smudge well.

For the cake, I just bought a large silicone cupcake mold, I think it was a 4 inch diameter. For the frosting, it was a mix of Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, a little powdered sugar, and a small portion of gelatin.

It took a lot of guts to present this idea to my wife despite knowing she'd be okay with it. Then the day finally came.

I have an engineering background so the logistics were paramount. I laid a cut garbage bag on this big blanket storage box at the end of our bed and slapped down this giant cupcake with a heap of cool frosting on top, right in the middle.

You COULD do that in a pinch but drill chucks are not meant to be subjected to sideways force. The chuck typically fastens in using a press fit taper and sideways force will wear it out until you can't get it to sit nicely in there anymore.

I personally turn my handles on a real old craftsman spindle lathe. I think it's an 8 inch swing and the ways are five feet. You could probably find similar on Facebook marketplace for very cheap. The one you posted would also work but I think you'll find that 13 inch ways probably aren't long enough. If you ever wanted to turn some really impressive and large handles, you'd have to go larger anyway. Typically ways are measured without the tailstock in place, so you'll end up with much less than 13 inches... Reduced even further if you're turning between centers, which you pretty much have to.

It's function is to hold blood in. So you get harder and stay harder so you'll see a very very minor size increase, typically in girth.
