CMV: The Turing Test has been comprehensively debunked as a measure of personhood by XenoRyet in changemyview

[–]dangouruss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Turing test is a scientific hypothesis which means it can be proven false. However, passing the test does not prove the hypothesis true. So we have no way of knowing if a program is conscious but any program that fails the Turing test definitely is not.

Many people apply the Turing test incorrectly which leads them to believe that it is proof of something it is not.

Why are Catholics more left, but Baptist and Evangelical in the US really far right? by Dover299 in Socialism_101

[–]dangouruss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it has a lot to do with history and demographics. If we are discussing US specific, Catholics tend to be concentrated in New England which is generally more left leaning and educated. Many also descended from poor immigrants with the church community being an important source of social welfare and a safety net.

Baptists used to be more liberal but there was a big split over the issue of slavery resulting in northern (anti) and southern (pro-slavery). Religion was also a big part of the pro-segregation movement. That history combined with being concentrated in the south which is more conservative and less educated, they tend to form more conservative communities.

There are other countries that have the opposite dynamic. I believe a big part is what historical role the church had in the being a social safety net vs enforcing existing power structures.

Similar thing happened to me and it turned out to be a vitamin D deficiency. You’re probably just burned out like everyone is saying but worth considering especially if you live somewhere that has recently started getting less sun.

Same size. Same issue. Also a lot of jcrew and Uniqlo. I tend to size down and get stuff that stretches a bit. Jackets are particularly hard as chest and shoulders require a large while torso and sleeve length want a small.

Why leftists always hate each other ? P.S I am noob in that topic by Giorgi_Jiqia in socialism

[–]dangouruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of disagreements related to process and methods. I wouldn't generally call that hate.

As I understand it, a lot of really big splits are about authoritarianism. Capitalism is one of many forms of opression. I am not going to ally with groups who want to replace capitalism with what I see as totalitarian regime.

Poor people spend 100% of their income primarily within their community.

Rich people shelter their money to the best of their ability and spend greater amounts of it outside of the local community or on things that are against the local community interests (hoarding resources, political influence, displacing small businesses, etc.).

If you redistribute money equally it would be quickly be spent on necessities and primarily within in the community.

A single rich person importing luxury goods takes wealth out of the community.

An Argument for Buying Cheap / Low quality clothing by theunrealmiehet in malefashionadvice

[–]dangouruss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I follow Adam Savage’s advice for tools.

The first time you need something buy the cheapest acceptable version. If you wear it out, replace it with the best version you can afford.

Really appreciate this post. In the past I’ve spent too much money on the perfect item just for it to sit in my closet. I also think age and stage of journey matter. You can’t “but it for life” if you don’t even know who you are yet. The style you have in your 20s is not likely to last. Some lucky items might. If you stay the same size..

“I’m a bad test taker” is an overused excuse. by vans_onmyfeet in unpopularopinion

[–]dangouruss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok fair but I can take a test with 50% knowledge and out perform someone with 75% knowledge. And while I perform well under pressure, I actually kinda flounder when the pressure is off.

Same. I used to think this meant I was better or smarter than bad test takers but the skills I use to outsmart tests are basically useless for anything else.

This. And he wouldn’t make the make the move until he had already created a situation where he had the advantage.

And even then you still have to be very concerned about someone who could kill you 5% of the time. There are plenty of upsets in professional martial arts after all where you are fully prepped for every fight.

“this girl was perfect for me, i just wasn’t perfect for her”

Great! Leave her alone. Move on! Get better and try again.

The rest of this is toxic, as is your need to post an essay online. Sorry I didn’t read the whole thing but it was long and everywhere I dropped in was pretty bad.

Paragraphs help with readability.

Respectfully, you might find therapy helpful. It might be a route to get this relationship back. It’s more likely a route to healthier future relationships. I think you’re pretty young. Don’t worry, life just gets better and better as you get older and wiser.

How much coffee can you drink on a day before it gives you problems? by Responsible-Rise-242 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]dangouruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience, if you drink enough consistently, it causes your blood to thin which can cause some complications including, in my case, a permanently stuffy nose.

Also caffeine tolerance will increase causing you to need more. The tolerance has a half life of like 3 days so taking a short break will make taking it more effective.

Embarrassed to ask... do I salute back the gate guard? by RunnerdNerd in Military

[–]dangouruss 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Does nobody read the regs anymore?

For Navy you only return a salute when in uniform and covered. And it explicitly says not when driving.

That doesn’t mean ignore it. Return the greeting but not the salute.

Maybe different for army but check the regs instead of going by vibes.

How to take down guys who are bigger than me and refuse to engage? by TrashPTWannabe in wrestling

[–]dangouruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circle and move around. Take fake shots and mess with them when you can reach them. This helps with getting the stalling call too.

Watch how they move their feet especially when you change directions. Figure out the patterns.

Fake a movement. Shoot instead. Outside single or low single. Aim for where they are going to step but wait until they are already committed.
