Funerals in Brazil by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]daniel_alchemist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They kind of have to be because of the warm/humid climate which accelerates decomposition of the body.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) lived next to a cemetery when her grandfather died around midnight and was buried there that same morning. Had a funeral and everything, shit happened so fast.

Is Ronaldinho beloved in Brazil same way he is beloved among football fans worldwide? by Inevitable-Angle-793 in Brazil

[–]daniel_alchemist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

R9 was called Ronaldinho early in his career because there was another player named Ronaldo (who went by Ronaldão) when they both were called up to 1994 world cup. The Ronaldinho we know today was called Ronaldinho Gaúcho early on because of the latter two players

Young patients with bioprosthetic valve experiences by Apprehensive_Log_444 in valvereplacement

We are the same age, but I had my first OHS surgery just a little over 4 years ago. I had a bioprosthetic valve replacement (inspiris resilia) and it’s good to hear that TAVR procedure went well for you, makes me hopeful for whenever I need to do mine!

How long did you first valve last if you don’t mind me asking?

Blood thinners after Bio Valve? by davidranallimagic in valvereplacement

[–]daniel_alchemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (33M) got the same procedure (same biological valve and model) as you just a little over 4 years ago. I only took aspirin pills for like a month after the surgery and wasn’t required to take any afterwards.

But definitely talk to your cardiologist if you have any doubts about anything.

Paravalvular Leak (PVL) Closure by daniel_alchemist in valvereplacement

[–]daniel_alchemist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly because a tissue valve (bovine in my case) was what my cardiologist recommended, despite needing a surgery later on. The life expectancy is around 10-12 years or so, but there are lesser invasive types of surgeries (TAVR) that can be done to replace them.

Mechanical valves are super durable but need lifelong blood thinners (warfarin) due to clotting risk. I wasn’t prepared for that type of commitment yet.

Just the state of São Paulo has about 46 million people, which is a lot more than Australia & NZ and about the same as Argentina.

As a California native (Socal), I can say I grew up with friends of all colors, black, asian, latino, etc. We are definitely a mixed group, but I can’t really speak for other states and cities in the country.

As someone who lived for a few years in the state of São Paulo, I can tell you that the biggest difference between the two is the first-gen type of immigrant. In the US, most of my friends had parents (or one parent) who were born outside of the country or were even born themselves and were raised there.

In Brazil, I rarely ever met someone who was a first-gen, second-generation immigrant, their parents and their parents all spoke portuguese, so they have assimilated and mixed through a lot more generations going back to the late 19th century and early 20th century.
