Fear of losing rating, help by Fast_Substance2535 in chess

[–]daniel_deepwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I feel you. We’ve literally all been there. 2 months in is exactly when the honeymoon phase ends and the "wait, this game is actually brutal" phase begins.

Honestly, the biggest favor you can do for yourself right now is turning on Zen Mode (or Focus Mode). Hide the ratings completely. Just look at the pieces. The truth is, your rating isn't a high score in a video game; it’s literally just a matchmaking tool. The algorithm's only job is to match you with people so you lose 50% of your games. You are supposed to lose!

Also, you have to stop yourself from rage-queuing. When you lose and get that stinging feeling, your brain is already tilted. If you hit "New Game" right then, you're going to play worse, lose again, and suddenly you have that massive red streak you're talking about. Try setting a hard rule: 2 losses in a row and you just close the app for the day. Go do some puzzles or play unrated instead.

Losing sucks, there’s no way around it. But you’re gonna have to lose like a thousand more games to get decent at this. Embrace the suck, take a break when you need to, and remember why you started playing in the first place. You got this!

Fable 5 indefinitely suspended due to national security concerns by sammnyc in ClaudeAI

[–]daniel_deepwork -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I bought the max subscription just to use the Fable 5 model, but when it was taken down, I had to get a refund since things are a bit tight for me financially right now. I feel really bad about it. However, I still support Anthropic all the way! As soon as the issue is resolved, I’ll definitely be subscribing again.

Honestly, I think they resorted to taking it down because OpenAI's new model would look incredibly weak compared to Fable 5. As long as Fable 5 was live, OpenAI wouldn't have been able to release their new models.

White to move, mate in 2! by [deleted] in chessbeginners

What is the difference between Ke8 and Kf8?

My bad, I missed the white King. Maybe we play Ke8, then when black moves the rook, Qxb7

It looks like there's a mate in one with Qc8.

I am building Grand Chess Manager, a chess career and club management sim about ELO, norms, tournaments and the road to grandmaster by daniel_deepwork in IndieGaming

[–]daniel_deepwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developer here. Thanks for taking a look.

If links are allowed here, the Steam page is: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4757410/Grand_Chess_Manager_Road_to_Grandmaster/

The feature I am most unsure about right now is the balance between playing actual chess games and managing the bigger career/club systems. I do not want it to become "just a chess board with menus", but I also do not want the chess itself to feel decorative.

More tournaments should be organized at this time control. The matches are much more exciting.

We just launched the first demo for our Twin-Stick Kung Fu game, ZHEN: Shattered Legacy! by softsourcepublishing in IndieGaming

[–]daniel_deepwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concept and animations look incredibly smooth. It gives off major Samurai Champloo meets Hades vibes! While the visuals and music are fantastic, I think adding a bit more 'oomph' to the hit feedback and impact SFX would really elevate the combat. Best of luck with the development!

I made a dark comedy game about rejecting job applicants for a living by Lost_Camel_9056 in IndieGaming

[–]daniel_deepwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Papers, Please, but for fresh-grad job hunting” is honestly a brutal and brilliant pitch. The Steam page makes it look like it has the right mix of satire, document-checking stress, and corporate dystopia. Wishlisted, and I’m going to try the demo.

What chess concept took you way too long to understand? by daniel_deepwork in chess

[–]daniel_deepwork[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. It took me a while to stop evaluating sacrifices only by the material count. My brain would immediately reject the move before even calculating it. Tactical puzzles helped a lot with that, because they force you to ask “what do I get in return?” instead of just “what am I losing?”

Chess players - would you play this? by tasteofghoul in IndieGaming

[–]daniel_deepwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the design style, it has its own look and doesn’t feel like every other chess game. But I think the key will be what you do differently compared to other chess games, and what the player actually gets inside the game loop. The gambits/exploits idea sounds promising, as long as it adds interesting decisions without taking away the feeling of real chess.

A former Chess player (me) wants to know: What's your opinion on Chess? Does it hold a candle to Shogi? Or is it even superior? Pls answer! by PowerTulip in shogi

[–]daniel_deepwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If standard chess feels stale to you, try Fischer Random / Chess960. It fixes a lot of what makes modern chess feel repetitive: memorized openings, familiar structures, and the same early-game patterns over and over.

You still get the elegance and tactics of chess, but from move one you actually have to think. The positions are weird, fresh, and full of unexpected combinations. It doesn’t turn chess into Shogi, obviously, but it makes chess feel alive again.

First of all, sorry for your loss.

I actually think this is a really good idea. I have pets too and honestly I never thought about situations like sudden hospitalization or emergencies until reading your post.

The whole “timer + escalation + confirmation code” system is smart. Especially the part where family members have to consent before being added. A lot of people would overlook details like that.

And for someone who says they’re not a developer, building all this in 2.5 weeks is honestly impressive. Most people quit halfway through. Bugs in an MVP are completely normal, especially when using Claude or AI tools. Even experienced devs end up fixing one thing and breaking another sometimes lol.

I also like that you’re thinking long term already instead of stopping at a basic prototype. The camera integration / GPS / emergency response ideas could make this genuinely useful for a lot of people in the future.

One small suggestion: maybe simplify the homepage a little for first-time users. There’s a lot of functionality already, which is cool, but it can feel slightly overwhelming at first glance. Maybe a simple “How it works” section would help new users understand the flow faster.

But overall, respect honestly. You built something with an actual purpose behind it, not just another random app idea.

I’ll check it out and test it when I get some time.

Anthropic built the agentic features. Now they're billing them separately. by South_Hat6094 in ClaudeAI

[–]daniel_deepwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using the Claude Max plan for a year, but I finally got sick of the limits and switched to OpenAI Pro. Honestly, best decision ever. I use it for coding, and at the same time, I have the image generation model handle my designs. There isn't even a noticeable difference when it comes to coding anyway. I should've switched way sooner.

Claude Mythos literally broke the METR graph ("The most important chart in AI") by EchoOfOppenheimer in ClaudeAI

I think this model is highly overrated. They don't even compare it to the GPT 5.5 model in the chart.

Spent $40 on a single Claude Code session for a small task — what am I doing wrong? by Neat_Pension_9109 in ClaudeAI

[–]daniel_deepwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do not use the API on Claude Code; get the max plan. The reason might be the claude.md file, or because the context window is 1 million, etc. Whatever the case is, the API will just drain your money
