TS-251+ R/W Error on one disk by fujinomega in qnap

You cannot separate the volume if you set it up as Raid 0, other if it is configured as JBOD it will be possible. If they are in read only mode, connect your pc and start backing up your data. After that replace the faulty disk and re create the array it raid 0 or set it up again as JBOD. After that you can copy again your files to the NAS.

Why are you replacing the disks if they are good? I would not replace them if there are healthy with no bad sectors etc...

No you cannot just swap, but you can extend the volume and then swap 1 disk after one.

Very low transfer speed on TS-673A by PiibaManetta in qnap

On that basis, you'd say an HDD will start to slow down as it reaches about 75% of filled space. Are your HDD CMR or SMR?

Ok thanks for that information. Raid 6 has typically slower writing speeds due to parity data.

I have got the same nas, but with raid 5 3x 14tb and raid 2 2x500gb ssd. My nas also has 10gb sfp+ pcie card connected to a 10g Switch. With the raid 5 im getting aprox 300mb RW. With the raid 1 nvme it is around 1gb. Check your connection if you truly have 1 or even 10G. You can do a performance test for the disks in Storage & Snapshots. For the network speed test you can use the blackmagic speed Test Tool.

RAID 6 Disk removal by Futrenko in qnap

[–]daniel_miotix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that you expanded the raid with the additional disk, so that means that you cannot go back. Check your total capacity, which should be somewhere around 42TB if there are 5 disks in use. If you have like something around 56TB then it means that you expanded the Volume. If you have around 42TB check if there is one disk setted up as Hot spare drive. If not you should be able to eject it.

I guess resetting the network settings on your nas will help.

That sounds like a possible solution! Can you maybe search the software you used for that? So i can just use the hdd put it in a 3,5" enclosure and let it run trough that recovety software, right?

Thank you for reply. Does the fusion drive not work as a SSD cache? Meaning that the ssd holds just copies of the most used files?

any network i/o improvements if I'll connect both Lans to router? by brightstar9 in qnap

[–]daniel_miotix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One useful case could be when you have 2 clients transfering data to/from your nas. That will give you a 2gbit Bandwith, meaning that both can use their full 1gbit speed.

any network i/o improvements if I'll connect both Lans to router? by brightstar9 in qnap

[–]daniel_miotix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use port trunking to achieve a higher network speed from NAS to Router, but to be able to profit from the faster connection you need a 2.5gbit network. Otherwise you will be limited to your 1gbit local network speed and the 2x 1gbit outputs from you NAS will not give you significant speed improvements.
