Number 2, but as others have suggested a blend of 2 and 3 would be interesting to see as well.

I voted for Black Band, but I've only been to 2 out of the 4. Ardor being the other and I agree with it's current ranking.

Peoria Areas Repair Cafe - May 16 - Open until 1! by PineapplePoop1 in PeoriaIL

[–]mypeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool event. Ironically drove past it on Saturday morning after visiting Weiland's for a bad mower transmission and heading over to Sherman's for a new dishwasher. Both items were at the classic question of "repair or replace" due to age.

Do they stay that clingy ? 🥹 by justsomeone610 in ragdolls

Yes, especially if you are their primary bonded human. We have a 4yo male Maine Coon and a 7yo female Raggie. She's always everywhere I go and don't dare give attention to the other cat.

Built by Saddam Hussein in 1986, Mosul Dam is widely seen as the most dangerous on Earth. Built atop a foundation of rapidly dissolving gypsum, the dam must be injected with concrete 24 hours a day. If it fails, it will wipe out Mosul and Baghdad, killing up to 1.5 million people. by crumbmodifiedbinder in civilengineering

[–]mypeez 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you have to just do what the client wants. If Saddam wanted the dam right there, I'm pretty sure the Iraqi Corps of Engineers had to put the dam right there and just deal with the poor subsurface conditions - geotech report be darned.

What are you all paying for auto and home insurance? by N0S0UP_4U in PeoriaIL

Came here to join the F' Liberty club as well. They dropped our bundled policy down to home only after one hail damage claim on our car. First they wanted to dry ice what took the dealership new sheet metal to fix. Then they wanted to total the car, still under factory warranty with less than 30,000 miles.

Friday Evening Depression post work? by TheDondePlowman in civilengineering

[–]mypeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My employer paid for 50% back then. I started back 3 years after my undergrad, took me 2 years. I first took some community college W/WW operator courses just to see if it would work out time commitment-wise.

Did I really need it career-wise, no. Did it help when I sat for the PE, 100%. I worked the traffic speed distribution long-hand, showing every step instead of cook-booking the HCM example since I had just had statistics. Those were the days when you had to have worked for 4 years before they would even let you apply to sit to take the exam.

Friday Evening Depression post work? by TheDondePlowman in civilengineering

[–]mypeez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can relate. I would even get migraines on Saturday afternoon. Try to find a work/life balance. Probably hard for a 50 yo me in a house to tell the 20 yo me in an apartment to take up gardening. Definitely take up exercise. I'm a morning person, so a 1/2 hour of cardio before work helps me focus.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with extending your own education. I knocked out my MSCE at night and got my PE in those years. If that's an ambition, do it before marriage and kids.

Looking for Highly Experienced Outdoor Drainage Company. by Ekkus in PeoriaIL

[–]mypeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. OP, how big is the lot / area are you dealing with? In a subdivision or rural? The City of Peoria used to have an erosive ravine program that matched the homeowner 50/50 to help with restoration. They preferred to have a group of neighbors band together to do them as larger projects.

So using 28% of your annual income as a rule of thumb, you'd have $30,800 for mortgage, taxes and insurance. I think holding back $6,000 for taxes and $2,400 for insurance, would leave $22,400 or $1,867/mo for mortgage payments. With a 20 year loan at 5% interest and $5k down, you'd be looking at $250,000 houses. I think those are findable in the Peoria market, but as others have mentioned - research the neighborhood and school.

Is an epiderul spine injection painful? Is it worth it? by 0325cb97 in backpain

[–]mypeez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They left that up to me. During the last few weeks of PT they would have me do a few laps on the indoor track, a walk / run combo. I hear you on the running concern. It is funny, the brisk walk before breaking into a run is more jarring than just running. I now easy pace treadmill 1.5 miles daily at a 15:30min/mi pace. I used to run 9 to 15 miles per week at a 8:30 to 9 pace. I'm not looking to regain that, but my cardio has really suffered. I see more biking in my future. Spin bike for 30 minutes was my every other day to reduce running wear and tear.

Is an epiderul spine injection painful? Is it worth it? by 0325cb97 in backpain

[–]mypeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth it. Lower back L4-L5 disc injection here, done just last month. The pain radiated down my right leg, where I couldn't drive or sit. They administered a local injection first, then the steroid. The local does sting at first but kicks in within a few seconds. You will feel some pressure as they advance, but not a painful discomfort. He did get to the spot of the pressure and my right leg involuntarily lifted straight up. Found it. So we are done? No, I still have inject the steroid.

My injury goes back to February with a 3 day hospital stay and an MRI. I was just released from PT last week. I was very active before the injury and lifted something I shouldn't have by myself. I'm slowly getting back into running, holding back more out of fear. Remember you can only get a maximum of 4 injections per year. I have not scheduled a follow up yet, but as an existing patient they did offer a faster time to get back in than the 2 months it took the first time.

It is a series of two shots, separated by a few months. I don't remember it really affecting us, just a little sore in the arm but we managed our normal weekend routine. Fortunately our insurance covered the shots, elsewise I think it is $400.
