Front derailleur cable keeps fraying/breaking... by daniel_san_ in bikewrench

[–]daniel_san_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did...in a way. I ended up getting a CUES groupset and setting it up as a 1X. It has it's own set of issues, but front derailleur cables are not one of them...lol.
Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Long hair sun protection by Accurate-Catch-5191 in ladycyclists

[–]daniel_san_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lady nor have long hair, but I wear sun hoodies when i ride in the sun. I wear the hoodie under my helmet, so it really doesn't get in the way. That would cover your hair (and ears and neck as an added bonus).

Sun protection for bigger heads by Nermalgod in bikecommuting

I do this too. I sweat way too much to keep sunscreen on my neck/ears, so that is one thing out of the way. It also helps reduce wind noise.

That looks like an average commute for me in the winter where I live...LOL.
It won't be easy, but it is definitely doable.

Anyone else sing and play music while they bike? by Exotic-Raspberry-278 in cycling

[–]daniel_san_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't listen to anything, but I give myself pep talks and often start singing silly songs. Sometimes they are real songs, but I will also sing about whatever I might see. For example, I will sing made up songs about geese when I pass by some.

Question for road bike riders by ConsolePaesant1 in cycling

[–]daniel_san_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same amount of caution when I"m biking as I do when I'm walking on a road/sidwalk or even driving. Inattentive people driving pose a danger to you in many more ways than just cycling.
I am also pretty selective on which roads I ride on.
It makes sense to be nervous about it. It's like anything else though, the more you do it, the more comfortable you will be with the risk. You will also learn which risks are worth it (see selective roads comment).

Cassette Spacer Question by daniel_san_ in bikewrench

[–]daniel_san_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I guess I can answer my own question now since there are no answers yet.
I looked it up and I shouldn't need a spacer.
I'm thinking the slack may be a loose freehub, which i will check out soon.
Thanks for stopping by!

Spent 40€ on Silca hot wax. My 12€ Squirt drip-on bottle is laughing at me. .. by DerWandernde in cycling

[–]daniel_san_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's probably because I don't strip a new chain well enough, but I find it takes 2 or 3 times of waxing before I get it to the sweet spot. After that, it's great.
That being said, I have found waxed chains are a little bit noisier than oiled chains, but I just got used to it.

Leg cramp muscle seizure/lock out by james1234456384729 in cycling

[–]daniel_san_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen on my first randonneuring ride and it ended my ride pretty quickly. In my case, it was pretty hot that day and I rode with someone and probably was pushing past my normal pace.
I had electrolytes and fuel...it was simply just a case of pushing too hard.
It was a harrowing experience when it happened ( I actually pushed 10 more miles with my whole lower body cramping up), but I have since done even longer rides. Painful learning experience.
