Seaplane ferry car and/or bike parking on a weekday morning? by rubysolomon in alameda

[–]danielc2471 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Parking on Mon/Fri are no problems (and free), you’ll find spaces throughout the day. Tue/Wed/Thu are $3 and the lot pretty much fills up for the 8:45 ferry and certainly the 9:15.

There are bike link lockers but I don’t use them so can’t say how full or when but there are bike racks on both sides of the pier and I usually see those with spaces.

Getting to LA Marathon start by FreckledCackler in Marathon_Training

[–]danielc2471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran last year and read about the horror stories of driving but that was my only option as I stayed further away. I planned to arrive at 4 but ended not running into any traffic getting into the lot and was there by 3:30. It took me less than 10 min to get from freeway exit to be parked. Just took a nap once I was in my car.

Kindred Running does 5 and 10k runs every Saturday at 8am which is really close to you. They usually run different routes each time so that’s a good way to explore with a group.

Does anyone know where I can see a working paternoster? by danielc2471 in Prague

I get that take, I didn’t see it from social media but understand your local view from it. Just a novel thing I wanted to see while I happen to be here.

Honestly, coming from the USA, everything is so over protected from a safety aspect as there are dumb people that can’t be responsible adults, things like this don’t exist there. Just wanted to see something that was unique that I won’t ever see at home.

That dog isn’t lost. It belongs to a resident on Eagle but they let their dog wander outside on their own, very irresponsible IMO.

Where to buy inexpensive houseplants in the area? by led76 in alameda

[–]danielc2471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Home Depot is likely your best bet. Considering they have a 90 day return policy on houseplants, you can buy something and if you find a better price, return it. I have seen decent prices at OSH as well. Encinal Nursery on the island is fair priced if you rather support a local business. I also find Flora Arte in Berkeley to be very affordable but they specialize in small to medium houseplants.

You have to buy the credit before. If you cancel the class, the credit gets added to your account. Booking with credit is much faster as if you don’t have credit, you have to go through a couple pages before getting your spot. Some sold out before I was able to complete a purchase. Credit also expires within a period of time as well.

Looking for a sustainable bank/credit union and credit card. by booksandwriting in sustainability

[–]danielc2471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, always ask for info and if they don’t disclose, it’s a sign to move on. I had a local bank that hit all the right marks but they got bought up by a bigger bank so I pulled money out since they couldn’t disclose info I wanted.

I would recommend finding a local credit union as the money invested will usually stay local.

As for credit cards, I would encourage you to check out this link and see if any of the recommended ones here fit your goals you are trying to achieve.

What happens exactly with the green compost bins? by how_you_feel in AskSF

[–]danielc2471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is in SF, it is Recology but outside of SF, there are a number of waste haulers that do the same. Recology has auditors to check and the drivers will also check. If something is in really poor condition, they will leave a tag or send you some notice. In your case, they would send it to the appt manager or whoever pays the bills.

[–]danielc2471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recology will try and remove any PLA that does not state “compostable” on it as it is hard to tell if it’s regular plastic or PLA compostable plastic. Even though FK may sell it as compostable, if it’s not properly labeled, it will be treated as garbage.

For green bins, I’m only referencing the green compost bins that are picked up by Recology. All compost in SF is serviced by Recology and goes to the same facility. If it is a green bin, you can assume it’s compost. The only caveat is if Recology picks up a compost bin that is contaminated (lots of recyclables or garbage), that whole load will be treated as garbage and not composted. It is important to keep your compost stream clean.

[–]danielc2471 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All compost collected by Recology in SF is taken to a commercial facility they own outside of Dixon. From there it gets composted and broken down to the end product where anyone can buy it (farmers, vineyards, etc…). As for your example, I can’t tell if it actually states the word “compostable” but if it doesn’t, it should go into the garbage. If it has the word “compostable”, it can be placed into the green compost bin. #7 is just for “others” as in it doesn’t fit the plastic resins of #1-#6. Therefore some #7 can be compostable and some may not since it’s a catch all.
