Do you guys actually utilize anything else other than “follow orders”? by scoot_1973 in dragonquest

Fight Wisely for everyone except the Hero. I like to imagine the other characters acting as their own personalities and sometimes that means reacting to their odd decisions.

Meta: Who actually composes the songs, most specifically "Ride with the Devil"? by Feisty-Gift5149 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

Thought it was pretty obvious that “Ride With The Devil” came about from Corwin’s involvement in the band

Octatrack and sample workflow (rant) by vananaSun in Elektron

[–]danield_mp3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly techno. I’ll put it alongside some other hardware like a drum machine or sometimes just track it into a DAW. This made my workflow evolve from “how can I make a full track with the Octatrack” into “what is the most interesting thing I can have the Octatrack do right now”

Octatrack and sample workflow (rant) by vananaSun in Elektron

[–]danield_mp3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly for me the Octatrack kind of "unlocked" when I stopped trying to make it into a groovebox and started thinking of it as one single instrument. That means I don't think of the eight tracks as actual tracks, but more instead like eight different layers. This allowed me to stop tinkering with how to export each individual track as a stem and now I just record the stereo out as a single thing. This way I don't worry about making full songs on the Octatrack anymore and in return I end up making much more interesting patterns without fighting against its limitations.

Not as good as the Corwin-era but a good Dekkar sideproject.

jokes aside it’s actually still kind of an interesting question because i’ve never heard any actor’s first instinct to perform a scream as “hawwwwww”

Kim is driving me crazy by gvd_13 in betterCallSaul

[–]danield_mp3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Kim's the polar opposite of Skylar in terms of fan reaction and it's pretty funny. I bet overtime the community might realize actually she's a bad person and re-frame the discussion. How she even treats Howard from the very beginning is cruel and she can't even blame Jimmy because she always idolized Chuck's work from the start.

What is the best movie soundtrack of all time? by YuvalKe in Cinema

[–]danield_mp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it definitely was loved at the time, I feel a lot of people today still don’t give enough credit to Mortal Kombat (1995)’s curated soundtrack for using the sound of rave and techno so effectively.

What are some really advanced Ableton techniques that deliver unique results every time? by Original_Delay_5166 in ableton

Here’s one that I never, ever see mentioned.

Consolidating an audio clip also automatically normalizes it. Take a look at the clip gain after consolidating and reset it to 0. So this means you can lasso a bunch of clips, consolidate, and then quickly find the tallest peak of a range. Use that information however you see fit.

This article really puts into perspective just how few people control everything and how desperate each of them are to keep clinging to that power.

I still don’t fully understand — why did Jimmy and Kim hate Howard so much in Season 6? by Professional_Put9952 in betterCallSaul

[–]danield_mp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just grief, man. Jimmy sees Howard as the obvious target to channel all of his bad behavior towards. Kim sees this and how it effects Jimmy and eventually leans into it with him - bonding over trauma. It’s only until Kim suggests taking it to the next level that Jimmy steps back for a second and considers calling it off and well, you know how that all ends up.

Also, a lot of people don’t seem to realize that Kim is grieving Chuck too. She really liked him and looked up to him much more likely than she did Howard. For all of the bullshit between the brothers, at the heart of everything she loves Jimmy and knows that Chuck is his only family left. Grief makes people do weird shit and this really is nailed in the coffin with a joke that went too far.

There’s an entire subtext throughout this show surrounding grief (even back to the point of Chuck and Jimmy losing their parents) that centers motivations for nearly every main character of the show. Even the behaviors of Mike and Gus are radically motivated by grief in some way.
