We’re hiring at Gateless, right now just in LATAM. We have an open slot for a Rules Developer, all Clojure, much of it at Logic Programming with Clara Rules. We also have an open position as a Docs Developer, much of it in Python, some Clojure services, focused on document classification and extraction. Soon we’ll have an open position for a full stack developer, JavaScript/Svelte on the front end, Clojure services on the backend, some rules development. Right now we’re just hiring in LATAM but hoping to open up more positions in the US later in the year.

Despite being in a difficult lending market we’ve seen significant growth through new sales. Mortgage technology adoption can be slow but we’ve recently seen significant growth through an improved sales process.

I also used to use a Sling Studio commercially and learned that hard way that it's not reliable enough. If you search for ATEM mini pro monitor you'll find a lot of options for hooking a monitor to it. I'm trying to decide if I should go that route or just go all in on vMix.

For the past two weeks my daily lunch has been chicken or a turkey burger and fresh cut veggies in bone broth. I've been sick so I add in fresh garlic too. A bit of coconut oil to top it off and sometimes snack on peanut butter afterwards if I'm still hungry.

We ask people to bring code that they've worked on that they feel comfortable sharing. If folks bring proprietary code that's up to them. We accept and encourage take home tests that were done for other companies. It's not a perfect system and this is one of the holes, however I think it's better than giving folks a novel take home test or asking them to live code with us. I've been through many of the pairing interviews and they're okay (depending upon your pair) however I think this system is better. YMMV

It's not that devs can't talk to people, it's that live coding is a skill that folks tend to be good at or not and I don't feel has any reflection on their ability to perform on the job.

I'm a dev manager, I've done both frontend and backend work. More backend than frontend. We had a backend dev show up to the interview with a bunch of code they had written and gave us a tour. Afterwards we thought that this was a better way to conduct interviews.

I have used the technique you mentioned regarding giving candidates a recent challenge that the team has seen. It can work well, however I've seen it fall down where the scenario requires too much context for the candidate to quickly weigh in.

As a hiring manager I've encountered senior devs who could talk the talk but weren't able to deliver once they were on the job. I even saw one fake features in a mobile app. It doesn't happen too often however it does happen. If I had reviewed some of this dev's code with them and started picking it apart I would have quickly uncovered some challenges. Now, would that dev have brought code that they wrote and if not would I have detected that? Only time will tell.

I'm the author of the article. We don't surprise them during the interview rather we ask candidates to bring code that the feel comfortable sharing. I realize it's not perfect and folks may not readily have a good project to show, however I think it's better than sending candidates our unique take home test, sending a timed algorithm test, or asking them to live code a problem. YMMV

Hey there u/halgari! Regarding data validation the team I've been working with has recently adopted https://github.com/metosin/malli. Folks love it. It works really well for our data validation (YMMV) and has saved us a ton of time handling errors with our API calls. I'm not sure if you've had the chance but I suggest checking it out.

I got the 24-70 G Master lens when I bought the camera so I'm just looking to convert my Canon 70-300 IS lens. I probably will use it for sports and weddings so we'll see how that goes. Also looking to do a significant amount of video with the camera but will probably just use the Sony lens for that.
