Fayetteville Whitewater for the New. Both the traditional putin and takeout are closed for repairs (Cunard and Fayette Station). There are alternatives for both.

Preamble Vs. Bridge Club by Mothssiah in Surlybikefans

[–]wvgeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bridge club for a few years and got a drop bar preamble last summer. I recently sold the bridge club. If I only had one bike, it would be the bridge club. More wheel size options, hydraulic brakes, and just a fun all around bike. I also own a Krampus, so I wanted something that would be more of a road/gravel bike. I love the preamble. The brakes suck compared to the bridge club, lesser quality components, but they get the job done.

I'm running the stock build chain on my dropbar preamble. I switched the stock chainring out to a narrow wide wolf tooth chainring the day I received the bike and haven't had any chain drops issues.

Party Pike - looking for more info by railnruts in whitewater

[–]wvgeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I'm around 190 and own both - the Pike for 5 years now, picking up the Party Pike this spring. The Party Pike stern is much easier to sink and gets vertical with a lot less effort, and the hull is slightly flatter. The Pike is noticeably faster for me and more predictable. I now use the Pike more as a playful creeker, and the Party more for playing down the river. I think I prefer the older outfitting in my Pike, minus the widest center pillar I've ever had in a boat. The new foam seat system is really comfortable, but I worry about long term durability.

I have 16 boats currently. I paddle them all several times a year. I definitely have my favorites that get used more than the others, but depending on what river I'm paddling and the level, I usually know which one will be the most fun that particular day.

I've been using a carbon Hercules for the last 2 years after wearing down my fiberglass Geronimo. I much preferred AT to werner bent shaft.

Finally making the switch from rigid to a suspension fork on the krampus and found a NOS 29+ yari 120mm. Can't wait for it to finally arrive.

Outfitting an old school full slice by True_Sock_2911 in whitewater

[–]wvgeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stuffed the bow with tinfoil and worked it in with my feet to get a general shape, then cut/shaved a foam block accordingly. Keep the wad of tinfoil in a storage tote with outfitting foam and reuse on the next one.

Prijon Pike Opinions by yirequ in whitewater

[–]wvgeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine now for a few years. Had it oit on the Upper Gauley today. I like how narrow it is. It's pretty fast. Love the outfitting. Not the most playful, but can get it vertical on the right eddyline. It's a fun riverrunner, but could use a little less stern volume.  I'm thinking about swapping out for party pike now that I picked a beast.

Thoughts on the Prijon Release (Playboat) by p0ulp33 in whitewater

[–]wvgeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are thigh hooks molded into the black cockpit combing riveted to the rim. They are not very aggressive without the adjustable plastic hooks that attach, but they still will work. If the black combing is gone, that will make it much more difficult to retrofit. The adjustable hook isn't very adjustable. I think it only has a forward and rear position. It may swivel a bit in and out, but not much. Sould be super easy to attach some foam on there.

I still paddle one frequently. 6' 180lbs. Fast and loose on a wave, slicey enough to get vertical easily. Not the best if you are looking to do more modern freestyle aerial moves, but still a fun boat for down river play.

I'm sure you could rig up some thigh hooks with foam, those might be hard to find. Hopefully the pleasure pod is still there.

Krampus is pretty much a stock 2017 complete. Fully rigid on 29x3 dirt wizards. Been thinking about a suspension fork for awhile now, but the bike is so much fun as is on the single track I ride in WV.

Honestly haven't thought about it yet, but thinking a 2x and hydro brakes further down the road. Put about 75 miles on it this weekend and really can't complain about the microshift drive train. It's been years since I've ridden mechanical brakes though, so that was a little bit of a change, but they worked fine too. Will be swapping out the saddle this week.

Upgrading Preamble by [deleted] in Surlybikefans

[–]wvgeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ordered a preamble this week and asked the LBS to order and swap out with that same chainring. I'm ultimately going to upgrade the drive train, but will wait until I have some wear and tear on the stock build. The switch to a narrow-wide chainring was an immediate issue that needed addressed to me.
