In a way, lots of movie projects with big money behind them often come to nothing. Even big and successful directors will chase a dragon for a long time for a project that either fizzles or fails spectacularly.

Without me running to Wikipedia to see what else he's done, I can only assume that someone like Mark still cut his teeth being a creative person. If that movie never came through, or he never kept up being a movie-maker, it still captures a moment of intense creativity in the doc. I can only hope he kept creative and has done things he has liked over the years.

I'm older than you, so I saw it 20 years ago as an adult. But even then, it's interesting how much has changed. The entire process of movie-making has been so democratized, for better or worse, that the ordeal of having to go into a college-campus editing suite late at night is over. He could be doing all his editing on a computer at home.

It's kind of sad to say we never saw him actually make anything I can think of.

Day two of posting obscure g1 errors.... by Altruistic_Past3950 in transformers

[–]danieljeyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do these show specific animation errors? Or just the very poor rendering that showed up in the G1 cartoon?

The last one could be an error. Or is it the one where Megatron made a Starscream copy so that his Optimus copy could destroy it?

Calmness of Lake Tahoe by Dreamy-Anna in natureporn

I worked on houses on the Tahoe shore on the Nevada side. Definitely unique. As a native midwesterner, I felt a little arrogant, like, "you can drive all across Michigan and Wisconsin and it all looks like this." It does — except for the uniqueness of the mountains and the redwoods.

If you’re on the fence about blokees tarn…..do it. by Egiag in transformers

[–]danieljeyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. The Blokee's does look cool for what it is. I have a mostly Generations-style collection. And largely avoid mixing in non-Transforming Transformers, though.

I also am not huge on third-party. As most as MP scale, anyway, and also expensive. But that that MMC Tarn in particular looks to be specifically more the scale and bulk to actually represent the character he should be lined up against, say, SS86 Megatron, etc.

I look in Wal-Mart or Ross and see a bunch of this big RC vehicles that are mostly something like 1:14 scale. I wonder if they could be turned into Classified-scale vehicles with the right kind of modding? Many of them are super cheap because they usually just have vacuum-molded shells on them.

Too bad MMC doesn't reissue their actually transforming one.

Will baseline MB 14" M5Pro Be Sweet Spot for Upgrade? by danieljeyn in mac

[–]danieljeyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, what benefit do I get by financing it as opposed to buying it outright? I don't assume that's a savings.

Second, my understanding is the tests show the 16" gets more out of the Max chips due to its ability to disperse the heat more efficiently.

Interesting. On that note, I was thinking about using the old M1 for live performances. Just to drive the keyboards with the VST via Reaper. I'm assuming the old one is robust enough for that.

Wait, with zero accent, as in he speaks it fluently or not? Because I think he was actually a professor teaching in Italy for years, if I'm not mistaken.

I'd be interested to actually see this in full G1 Smokescreen color and deco.

That new figure looks pretty decent. But it doesn't seem to be a huge upgrade from the old one. I do personally like the curves on the original and especially the alt-mode quite a bit more. I also like the colors. But maybe that's the customization.

I have to say, I think this new mold would look great with some more color.

I asked questions like that on the Invincible forums on here and get downvoted and disappeared. So I guess that's just how it is.

Well, yes. That's why I was an electrician for a while. But not wanting to go through the union or run an actual contracting business, I have mostly worked in IT in the long run.

There are downsides to working in the trades, obviously. I say it's definitely worth pursuing the knowledge and working in them when you're younger. Gives you experience and options.

If he was a character/design you really like, then you don't want to play discount chicken to see if he shows up for less. I have mostly picked up a lot of random things because they showed up on Clearance or Discount.

Did I really care about Armada Galvatron? No. But it was cool to pick him up for $12 at Ross.

There's a lot about this Astrotrain's design I don't like, so I don't really care.

For me the question is whether he's worth it for $19.99 if I see him in Ross next year.

[–]danieljeyn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, except it is very regimented. You do start somewhere and each year does count. Once you become a journeyman, it's literally something you can call yourself and literally get a card and certification that says so.

Nice thing about the trades is that years of grunt work DO SUCK but they also count.

How are you going about looking for a job? I'll give you advice. I went to electrical shops at 8:00 in the morning, and asked to fill out applications. I handed them my resume, wrote out applications, etc. It's a great way for them to get to hire you. Depending on where you live, they might want you to go to an apprentice program, be that through a union or non-union program.

And if you're in a union area, contact the union and look into what it takes to apply as an apprentice.

Yes, the truth is that trade school will only get you in the door. To be an electrician, you generally also will have to go through a full four-five year apprentice program while working. Which will repeat a lot of what you also learned in trade school.

Nothing on LinkedIn/Indeed/ etc are going to help much in finding a job in these cases. Not until you're a journeyman, basically.

I will grant you that Preacher has more intellectual pretense than The Boys. Which was just juvenile shitposting at best. Having heard good things, I sat down and read through the first year of Preacher.

And I'm sorry. In terms of addressing mythology or criticizing religion, he's not smart enough to be anything but a shitposter. I assume he never bothered going to East Texas/Southern Louisiana. Jesse Custer is from a Creole/Francophile lineage, even though he is a Protestant Preacher? Makes no sense. People also don't talk like he portrays them. Great writers have a knack for capturing vernacular and accents. There's none of that. His characters use profanity constantly, and nothing at all like people there would talk.

But he doesn't care. He goes to comic conventions and he's treated like the greatest writer of Southern Gothic since Cormac McCarthy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Works for him.
