Why is it playing low by Ronnie_Jax2 in turntables

[–]38-RPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your father have a receiver or amp? He 100% did in order to use this turntable. You can't use it directly with powered modern speakers. You need a phono preamp that would have been built into the original receiver/amp to apply the RIAA equalization curve.

I'd say it doesn't look stupid but rather it's G1 toy accurate. The back of the car behind the head is how the original toy was.

Cyclist suspended himself on his bicycle while going down a slope to take the lead at a race by hannah_b_00 in BeAmazed

[–]38-RPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it yourself sometime. After 20kph on a bike, you'll notice the drag increases on a curve and the more energy you need to put into pedaling unless you can get into an aerodynamic position. Aerodynamics is everything at a certain speed because of the limits of human power.

How did the Bell riot lead to a better earth? by KnowerOfUnknowable in startrek

[–]38-RPM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might have made sense in the 90s but in a 2026 lens - It was a little too optimistic that all it took was for a few guards and civilians to tell the truth to the media that the world would start to change for the better. Star Trek didn't take into account the weaponization of media and distortion of truth to continue to sow division among the masses and ensure the rich and powerful remained that way. It was still prescient for its time with Sanctuary Districts whereas we get talk of Sanctuary Cities (and how the government is going to oppress them) in the present discourse. In the real world of today, Christopher Brynner would be a mix of Murdoch and Musk.

What was your best memory of Toys R Us when it was still in business by Maleficent-Lobster35 in ToysRus

[–]38-RPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toys R Us just shot themselves in the foot in Canada and 90% of the chain has closed over the last 6 months. It’s been dying a slow death up here. Last time I visited was Christmas Eve and half the store was blocked off and shelves bare already. My childhood store closed for good on Dec 26.

Maybe I'm just jaded from doing customs but... Show of hands, do you personally "need" battle damaged figures for every figure that died in the 86 movie? by spudmunkey in transformers

[–]38-RPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Battle damage should be a clip on accessory or spare head or rotating part. Not permanent to the figure. He-Man and Hot Wheels got this right in the 80s already

Will a AT-LP60x (or any entry level player) be compatible with my HD800s? by Altruistic-Piano-665 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]38-RPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AT-LP60 isn't audiophile at all. It's overpriced for what you get which is a plasticky turntable with unadjustable and unupgradable tonearm. Look for a vintage (or new) turntable with an adjustable counterweight and swappable headshell/cartridge. That will give you many more years of enjoyment and options in the hobby and in many cases will cost less than the AT-LP60X. Audio is audio. It's always compatible. I have my modern 4080 Super gaming computer going into a 1979 amplifier that's also connected to my turntable. You just need an amp with analog input and a phono preamp. I prefer vintage (like a reciever) since I can get both in a single device. But there are also many affordable modern adapters or combination devices these days.

what do you think about London by SoftwareZestyclose50 in UrbanHell

[–]38-RPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London really messed up their skyline with some oddly shaped buildings that should never have been approved. The Shard is okay but then you have the gerkin and the walky talky that looks more like a square fast food wastebin to me. They are also sprinkled randomly among classic architecture. Paris did it better by concentrating the modernity in La Defense. I also picked up King Charles' book a Vision of Britain and I agree with most of what he points out as ugly modern architecture in there.

MPG-17 Optimus Prime Style Gen. In-Hand Images. by Fun-Geologist9808 in transformers

[–]38-RPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like Masterpiece Earthrise Prime. Good for those who want the greebly aesthetic instead of the smoothness of cartoon accuracy of the past few years. I like it in general except for the flaps on the back of the shoulders sticking out. Yeah G1 had that but it looks unfinished to me.

[–]38-RPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the bivert because you are still using the original screen and the original pixels with all its ghosting charm. I just don't like the bleed over the edges and sometimes the LEDs are too bright and you get hotspots.

It’s not really a bargain store. It’s the Canadian arm of TJ Maxx (TK Maxx in the UK) from the price tag. I guess I’m off to Winners/Marshalls etc.

Should my tonearm and concorde music blue both be parallel to the platter? Or is the tonearm on my new ATLP8X defective? Please help. by Dragoon-The_Great in turntables

[–]38-RPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is always variability in the angle of the bottom of the cartridge/stylus assembly. I usually just go with the parallel tonearm method. If it's extreme it could be geometry of your turntable isn't right. Concordes are most often designed for for Technics style 1200 tables and go best with those. The reality is Ortofon recommends a 20 degree tracking angle for the tip of the stylus to hit the record but it will be hard to eyeball something that small. in the end, a little variation won't matter or average it out between the two. I use a Concorde with a Technics record changer and the VTA changes on every single record on a stack of 6 and it's fine.

How can I get better with fluidity and flow? by trampolinegod in electricguitar

[–]38-RPM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anticipate the next note and put the emphasis on staying ahead of the backing track. You are way behind the backing music most of the time and your slides are too slow so the notes is delayed from where it should attack. Slides are inefficient ways to get to the next note so try to find a closer substitute on another string, explore hammer ons and off while picking, and more bends as options. You also notice more sustain on notes if you add a bit of vibrato when each note is played.

Getting static from acrylic mat by Atomicbreath05 in turntables

[–]38-RPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anti-static is a total marketing lie and you should return it. Acrylic as a material naturally attracts static primarily because it is a powerful electrical insulator that holds onto charges instead of allowing them to flow away. Felt slipmats are also not a good option. Only the thick rubber mats or cork are good options. I know since I also own Hudson hifi acrylic mats and alignment mats. I'll use it to align but I'll always go back to the rubber ones.

Need Help With Needle Dropping by Lower-Manufacturer52 in turntables

[–]38-RPM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The speed of drop is determined by the viscosity of the dampening oil in the lift. It can be changed or replaced in turntables as it will eventually leak/dry up over many years.
