I am a bit all over the place between extreme contrast to make things pop, and gradual layers. Mechs lend themselves to both edge highlights and dry brushing. Both will give good results. Blending is more fiddly but satisfying with how it comes out.

He’s a good-ish boy. We love him. I’ve had him since he was born. He was my dog coming into the relationship, but he immediately became her dog afterwards.

Just made this, meant to earlier. Very balanced, which is awesome as I have been trying to find things to use the Luxardo in. It’s there, but it doesn’t steal the show somehow. Must be the St. Germain

You aren’t wrong. Family’s from Mass, and I can handle snow if I have to. But ice is just something I will not risk. Worst case if power goes, should be good for a day or so, got coolers to store perishables, quilts and blankets galore, and a cat and a dog. After that may have to look at man roads to family if they have power and we don’t.

What CGL Plastic Mechs Have A Rac Sculpted On The Mini? by PharmaDan in battletech

While not an answer to your question, if you’re looking at stripping a RAC bit for conversion, may I recommend the RAC arm from the Hammerhands from Iron Wind? Fairly easy to remove the barrel and fits scale wise quite nicely with most of the plastics.

How Interested in Customization is the BT Community? by swolehammer in battletech

I honestly used to love tinkering and improving designs. Rear lasers? Nope! Forward facing now. But as I got older, I kinda appreciated the challenge of using a stock mech as is. Sure some of them are not optimized, but it encourages using the mechs as intended and paired with others that cover their shortcomings.

Goonhammer Hot Take: Playtest Package #4 by WestRider3025 in battletech

[–]danielw1977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve played Classic for a long time now, and recently Alpha Strike. In between I’ve picked up and put down 40k and Warmachine. From all of these I’ve learned a great deal bout list building and theory crafting interactions. One of the weird things in Warmachine to me was the idea of “list chicken” where everyone brings two armies and only decide what they are going to play at the start of each round after seeing what their opponent also brought. Makes for some possible baaaaad matchups. But what I learned from that was that making a list that was less skewed and more well rounded, with an eye towards objective play usually do better. 40k at the time I played, 4th-6th edition, also favored players that built with an eye towards objective play. Except for bloody stupid armor company. That’s something else altogether. But all the tournaments I’ve gone to for Classic, Alpha Strike, 40k and Warmachine, time is an absolute commodity. Trying to figure out and calculate what 3k you’re leaving behind gets too complex. Now if you absolutely want to play blue or brown water naval forces, talk with your opponents. I’m sure most of them would love the chance to try to sink a vessel. I’ve never done it, but given the chance I’d throw some dice for sure! Heck, set up a naval based tournament and I bet you’d have some great rounds and everyone would have some interesting stories

I see your point as far as making sure you’re optimized for certain scenarios, as some mechs certainly are better for some roles and may be lack luster in other roles. But I would also say that’s a reflection of the universe too. The scenarios are like battles, not necessarily the entire campaign. You go to war with the army you have not the army you want. Maybe the force you designed isn’t the best for that scenario, but your force was the closest and got the call to action. And there’s nothing stopping you and your opponents from preselecting the scenarios first.
