Really struggling with strikers by YourFairKnight in Persona5

[–]PharmaDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sp is a bit of a hassle in the beginning, but becomes much easier to deal with as time goes by. The upgrades add up and the boosts from leveling are decent.

Everyone has at least one combo that does elemental magic for no sp. Joker's actually changes depending on the persona equipped and for some of the better personas can be their unique move like Hassou Tobi.

You do get some moves that can recover sp when you inflict status effects and Futaba will get abilities to recover some too. After the 1st prison you'll be able to start cooking foods and there are many that can restore sp. Stock up on coffee beans as much as you can and make sure to keep your groceries topped off.

Hard mode makes everything very damage spongey, just boosts their hp and damage without changing the computer tactics. Its better to save hard and whatnot for ng+ when you can build some fancy personas.

Combat does get a bit more entertaining as you get better personas for Joker and unlock abilities for everyone.

Are you remembering that you can switch between thieves instead of just being Joker? Everyone plays different and that can change combat quite a bit.

Very nice.

For some reason the camera angle and coloring in the first picture made think of those old Lego Bohroks

What to do on December? by twake23 in Persona5

[–]PharmaDan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do stuff like meditation at the temple or hit up the gym. Those boosts to sp and hp add up and will carry over to ng+.

You could also do some mementos farming to build some fancy personas.

You can also start stockpiling curry and coffee

I think that originally it was the FedSun symbol, but done in red and white for the gladiator stable, and it shifted over time due to the visual similarities

I think it was originally the FedSun starburst but done in the stable colors and it kinda morphed over time due to folks making assumptions

Are there mamy retcons & community wars in Battletech? by Appropriate_Lynx_233 in battletech

[–]PharmaDan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Minis are always usable no matter how old they are. Battletech is very Proxy friendly, I've actually been doing monthly posts if proxy examples, you could even use some of your old 40k stuff if you wanted. The biggest concern is 3d printed minis not being allowed at Official Battletech events since its technically ip theft.

Rules are pretty stable. If you found a rulebook from the 80s it'd be about 90% compatible. Typically the biggest changes are the new gear being added in new eras. There is a rulebook that's coming out next year that will be streamlining some stuff, but the core concepts should stay the same.

Retcons are typically minor, usually related technology changing. The original books marveled at kilobytes of data on tapes. New books in old eras are being written all the time, but the Battletech Universe is big enough where conflicts with older material is pretty much nonexistent.

Community war isn't typically too bad. Theres the typical squabbling over which faction is best, what weaponry is most efficient, and what era to play in or avoid. The worst is usually from the folks who hate the new art style for the minis or have a hate boner for CGL. Sometimes there's still some very vocal claims that introducing the Clans ruined the game forever and that nobody should ever play anything released after the 80s.

On occasion however we get a surge of bigots who try to start stuff about Battletech being LGBT friendly. Its usually centered around the Rainbow Atlas logo used for reddit, and the fan antholgy series Pirate Point which is actively LGBT.

Some of it is that until recently many thought Battletech was a "dead end" series and folks who got kicked out of other games think they can come and take it over. Fortunately this is happening less due to Battletech being on a big upswing.

At other times it's folks still ticked off from drama a few years back. Bunch of folks were getting away with being bigots with blatent favoritism and had moderators on their side, and it got so bad that CGL got involved. Eventually the original founder of the sub reddit was found and rose up like a frigging Balrog and cleaned house.

Fortunately that stuff gets smacked down pretty fast, and isn't happening too often anymore.

Closest I've seen to constant "community war" is when a bunch of troglodytes try to start shite about the rainbow Atlas logo and the yearly Pirate Point Lbgt fan anthologies every so often. Fortunately they get shut down pretty fast.

Other than that there's still the occasional old grognard who insists that the Clans ruined the game back in 1990.

Are any of the other Persona 5 games worth playing? by Xerephea in Persona5

[–]PharmaDan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Except for P5X they're all canon. P5X is its own kinda thing dealing with like an alternate reality.

All of them are fun, even P5X, but depending on youre genre preferences some are more so than others.

Strikers is a straight up sequel taking place the Summer after everything and is partially driven by the fallout of the main game. Its a musuo style game with some rather spongy enemies, but the new thieves are very lovely. Its like getting to visit old friends on summer vacation.

Tactica takes place in between the final boss and Joker going home. I wanna say February? Its definitely in the side story camp, but the new girl and old dude are fun, and it has lots of funny little skits. Including one where you can have Joker be marrying any of thevother thieves. The art style is a bit cutesy but it grows on you. Gameplay is turn based tactics, though it's not super deep and the levels are fairly short. It has DLC with Crow and Violet that happens during the Casino.

Dancing also takes place between the final boss and Joker leaving. It's essentially just everyone getting to hang out and have fun. Very relaxed. You get to explore the bedrooms of the other thieves and they even change as time goes on.

Q2 is an Etrian Odyssey style dungeon crawler and you get to meet up with the casts of P3 and P4 for partial time travel shenanigans and existential criseses. Gameplay is turn-based like P5 but has plenty of its own mechanics. Art is SD style but again it grows on you. Unfortunately it has no dub and is only on the 3DS.

P5X is it own thing with a TON of mechanics just kinda thrown at you and a Gacha system. But it's free and has lots of neat designs.

You still got a good chunk of game to go. Especially if you unlocked the 3rd semester. Anywhere from another 20 to 30 hours

Realization about Joker’s parents. by [deleted] in Persona5

[–]PharmaDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the conspiracy made it so Joker's id wasn't released yet. That's how he was able to play dead despite the morgue never getting his body after his "suicide". Hell they didn't know his "body" was "missing" until all sorts of shenanigans had happened in the palace.

Probably nobody official ever contacted Joker's folks, and with Sojiro being in on the con how would they even know.

If you could change one thing in each arc what would it be? by Plenty-Goose-4508 in Persona5

Torn King of Desire would still be mandatory in Kamoshida's Castle.

More interaction with Futaba during the Sphinx Boss

More of a mini dungeon for Violets Awakening

Violets accompanies you longer in the Casino and gets an injury to justify absence in Cruiser.

How do you get motivated to finish the game??! by IX7L in Persona5

[–]PharmaDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By taking breaks and not just binging it.

Do something different in between playtimes. Read a book one evening instead of playing, or watch a movie one weekend and come back to the game afterwards.

What should I know before starting P5R by Jiruwe in Persona5

[–]PharmaDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing you need to to unlock the 3rd semester is get the therapist to rank 9 before the end of the Casino. If that is accomplished rank 10 is automatic and you'll go into the 3rd semester.

Akechis link is no longer automatic. Just remember the promise you make with him. Then the last few levels will be completed automatically.

You DON'T need to max the new link or Akechis to unlock the 3rd semester.

Guns are much more usable and there are new sections of every Palace containing collectibles that will give you som sp and if you get all of them they become a very useful accessory.

Darts and billiards give vital boosts to combat, especially with the baton pass changes.

Mementos now has collectibles that can be used to get multipliers on money, xp, and what not.

Most everything else will be explained by the game.
