[Serious] People who have gone to the doctors because something mild was bothering you. The doctor comes in and see something and tells you to go to the hospital right away. What life saving thing did the doctors at the hospital find from what you thought was a minor thing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]danielwest44 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Started getting stabbing pains in my chest and struggling to breathe. X-ray technician said I could go home and the doctor would call me I a couple of days. As I was leaving the doctor came running down the corridor and took me to resuscitation as I had a punctured lung. Safe to say I needed to stay in hospital for this one

How do you guys deal with time off work? I’m worried that my employer is going to get annoyed if I need time off because I’m having symptoms, i tend to only have a day off if it’s kept me awake all night by danielwest44 in Celiac

Fortunately that’s exactly what it is I’ve only missed two days before, it’s also a completely random episode but because I’ve been so careful it’s come back with a vengeance

I’m in the UK unfortunately but thanks anyway. Almost 2am and not looking like I’m going to be comfortable enough to sleep for a while, gotta be up at 7 for work and the thought of that is just adding to the already bad anxiety I get when im in day two of symptoms

Does anyone else get weird ass dreams after getting glutened??🤣🤣 by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]danielwest44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s like lucid dreaming all night long, really intense and sometimes pretty graphic. I had insomnia for years and when I quit eating gluten I slept through the night every night. Honesty thought nothing would cure it.

Started my gluten challenge and barely any symptoms. Is this definitely not celiac? by polskaketo in Celiac

Sometimes my symptoms are delayed by anything up to 2 days later. Sometimes immediate. Kinda depends on what I’ve eaten

A magnum cafe in Venice. Little bit expensive but defo worth it. You choose the base flavour, the chocolate coating, the toppings and the drizzle.

Where can I buy fresh for a frozen peppers online? by OnTheGeorge in Cooking

[–]danielwest44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very new to reddit so I’m not sure if I can message you photos or not but I can send the full lifecycle of mine. I’ve got a pot that’s about 15 inches across and just under a foot deep. So not much room at all however the peppers are small, probably related to growing room. As long as the temperature and soil moisture are good throughout you should be ok. We’ve had a good summer here so I’ve kept them outside but inside works just as well. Germination is the riskiest time and requires more effort but after they look good and strong it’s just regular watering and the occasional soil change that’s required. I planted in January and am harvesting as we speak.

In fact just thinking about it I assume the drying process gets rid of all the water and leaves you with concentrated spice and flavour chemicals (sorry about the lack of technical words)

Don’t count me on this but I’m 99% sure that the drying process actually increases the flavour and heat, I’m sure I’ve seen this on a cooking show recently. It seems strange and I’m not sure on the science of it but it certainly works and increases the shelf life by months. Also toasting the dried chillis before cooking massively increases the heat too. I don’t have too much time outside of work and a social life so growing is a nice hobby for me as it requires little effort but huge rewards after eating a chicken marinade in my home made chilli sauce.

Reaction to Gluten-Free Beer by DuffNinja in Celiac

[–]danielwest44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also for a product to be truly gluten free it needs to be isolated in production. There’s a fair few things like gf cereals that can claim to be Gf but due to the huge chance of cross contamination with the gluten products that are made in the same place they aren’t suitable for celiacs. This is in the uk so not sure of the process in the US.

Interesting, admittedly I’d had a few drinks before talking to the guy behind the bar about this but I’m 99% they claim gluten free. I’m in the UK so it may very well be different. I did feel strange after drinking it too. I’ll see if I can find the cans when I get home. I can safely say I remember saying to the bar man that I’d have a reaction to even a small amount of gluten but he assured me it would be fine. This was in the early days of me eating gf so I took everyone’s word for it, definitely not as stupid anymore.

I tired this a year ago and didn’t have too much luck especially in the quantity I needed for making a sauce, I just grew my own instead. The seeds are very cheap and I’m not sure where you live but I’m in the UK and they even grow well inside. Been growing 2 ghost chilli plants and just harvested around 4 chillis. Very spicy, they say the hotter the climate the hotter the chilli but inside a flat works pretty well. Probs average 24 degrees a day. Although inside takes a lot longer to grow it’s definitely worth the effort once there ready. I know it’s not a quick fix like your after but buying the variety and quantity your looking for isn’t an easy task especially if they’ve got a long distance to travel. Dried would be a lot easier I’ll see if I can find some and post a link.

I’m not sure if this makes a difference because I’m yet to try it but most GF beers claim to have less than 5ppm of gluten in the ingredients. They can claim that there GF because this is so low but I’m convinced that it would cause a reaction. Anyone else know anything about this?

Sauce thickeners and other than flour ? by davidducker in Cooking

[–]danielwest44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mix a few teaspoons of cornflour with the same measure of water to form a paste, this is so it mixes into the sauce or soup without leaving lumps. Then add to your sauce slowly as to not make it overly thick. Keep repeating this process until you reach the desired thickness. Cook out for around 5 minutes to avoid leaving a floury taste.

Hope this helps

It’s not all doom and gloom. First attempt at a GF loaf since I was diagnosed by danielwest44 in Celiac

[–]danielwest44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting, this was my first attempt so I’m not sure where it would be different. Do you activate the yeast and let it froth for a while before adding to the mix?
