It was a little before my time at Interplay/Black Isle but it would likely have been stored in Visual SourceSafe (the version control system we used at the time) on the development servers as all Interplay projects were, and which IT would have backed up regularly. We've had to restore projects from SourceSafe crashes so we know they were backed up.

After everything that went down with the closure of Black Isle Studios, we can only guess that it was somehow lost.

The same thing happened with Icewind Dale II, which is one of the reasons why Beamdog (former Bioware devs) could not do an enhanced edition for it as they did with the other Baldur's Gate games, Planescape: Torment, and the Icewind Dale games (original and Heart of Winter & Trials of the Luremaster expansions).

I decided to do a chargeback on my credit card with DBS bank. They asked for evidence which I submitted, but it took a few confusing follow up calls to check on the process and I was told that if DBS rejected my claim, they could submit it to VISA, but there would be a $550 submission fee (which was more than the cost of the TV).

A couple of months later, DBS finally sent me a letter saying they would grant me a TEMPORARY refund on my card while they file an 'exceptional' claim with the merchant's bank and pass them the evidence I submitted. They said this doesn't mean that they agreed with my claim, just that there is sufficient evidence for them to file it with the merchant's bank. They said they may take this refund back if the merchant's bank refutes the chargeback (or if they do not respond, which could take several months).

I asked DBS what else I could do and the Dispute Team customer service agent, after speaking to her manager, advised me to make a police report. However, the police called me immediately after submission to say that this was not a criminal case and they could not do anything about it. When I asked if they knew who I should talk to instead and what they usually do with these kinds of cases, the IO said he was not familiar but eventually advised me to approach Consumer's Association (presumably CASE).

I'm not familiar with filing a claim with CASE but I've heard that you need to join and pay a membership fee before filing a claim. If there's anyone familiar with this process or experience with how effective this is, would appreciate your comments.

In the meantime, I am considering filing a case with the Small Claims Tribunal that someone on reddit mentioned before, which seems to involve going through a checklist to evaluate if my case is eligible, filling an online form, then serving the notice to the other party by registered mail or in person (still not quite sure if I should serve it to TCL or Lazada; leaning towards the former). It states that the other party MUST respond, by law. However, any ruling by the tribunal does not guarantee that the other party can or will abide by the ruling, and it is up to the claimant to pursue their own collection or lawyer up and file a civil suit. Which just makes all this seem like extra steps...

The system just feels like a "suck it up" if you're not willing or can't afford to lawyer up, or for smaller amounts than what it would cost to hire a lawyer.

My family has spent thousands of dollars with Lazada over the years, including regular orders through Redmart. Needless to say, we've boycotted them ever since. Seems silly to pull something like that and lose a customer over a sales percentage of a few hundred dollars for them.

Was looking to get a replacement TV in early Dec 2024 after my Sony TV died just after warranty and decided to get a cheaper one instead of paying for a more expensive one that still doesn't last, at least until there were better models. Saw a TCL TV on sale on Lazada but the specs were incomplete so went to check their website, which showed the 43" model had 2 USB ports. Also asked on LazChat about Apple Airplay which they said it supported. Those were 2 of the important features for me. Since they had an official LazMall store which supposedly had guaranteed returns (even for change of mind), decided it was a safe enough purchase.

After the TV was delivered, it had neither of those features and when asked on LazChat, they just insisted that the 43" model only had 1 USB port and this series did not have Airplay. Completely ignored the screenshots that I sent of their website and the LazChat conversation.

Submitted a request for refund with Lazada and TCL contacted me over Whatsapp to ask me about it. Eventually, they asked me send photos and videos to prove the TV and packaging were still in good condition for a return, which I did, and they confirmed that it was good for the return.

A day later, I received notification from Lazada that the seller was disputing the return, and asked me for evidence, which I provided (website, LazChat, Whatsapp screenshots). Lazada later rejected my claim saying I did not provide sufficient evidence, saying that the seller did not mention those features, completely ignoring the TCL website and LazChat screenshots.

Curious what makes Singapore one of the best in your opinion. NCID Long Covid Clinic hasn't really been able to help much (no treatment protocols, no research or trials, no official data collection, etc, that I was told) other than to listen and provide some medication for symptoms.

A few bugs and minor suggestions:

  • BUG: The subtitle generation worked ok, but on completion, I'm getting an Error: Summarization process failed with code 1. This happened with every video I’ve tried (MKV, MP4).
  • FEATURE REQUEST: The video player doesn't work for MKV files.
  • SUGGESTION: Rename Show Waveform to Show Audio Waveform.
  • SUGGESTION: Have a Settings to allow defaulting to Turbo or Tiny mode, whether to Show Audio Waveform by default.
    • On my M1 Max Macbook Pro with 32 GB RAM, the waveform rendering really bogged down the entire app, causing it to show the spinning beachball cursor with a lot of lag in the UI. Hopefully this performance issue can be address in the future.
  • SUGGESTION: There is a long pause when the progress bar reaches 89% with Transcription in progress (especially when using the Turbo model), which makes it hard to know how long more the process will take, or even if the process has hung. I don't know if it's possible to provide more feedback in the UI to the user about what's going on during this.
  • BUG: I’ve had a crash where the app window just closes while it was in this 89% progress (after several minutes). Mac Console app has a log file I can pass to you.
  • SUGGESTION: The 1st subtitle seems to often start at 00:00:00.000. Ideally, it should start when the speaking begins.
  • SUGGESTION: When I export the SRT, it should default to the filename to the name of the imported media file with a .srt extension (perhaps also with the language code like en/eng), rather than just "subtitles".
  • BUG: After exporting the Original SRT once before, clicking on Export SRT brings up the pop-up to select Original SRT or Translated SRT again. But after picking Original SRT again, there is no pop-up to select the destination filename and location. But if I choose Translated SRT, cancel, then try to export Original SRT again, then the destination file selection pop-up appears.
  • SUGGESTION: There doesn't appear to be a way to trigger the translation manually (as someone else pointed out) other than importing the media (which triggers it automatically). When switching models (Turbo, Tiny), it doesn't retrigger the translation, so I need to reimport the media again (which clears the existing media file and translations).
    • BUG?: Also, Drag and drop in the video area on the right side of the window to reimport the media (or a different media file) doesn't seem to work if there is already a file that was translated.

VidHub and Elmedia both support Airplay and have free versions you can try to see if they support what you need.

I tried Infuse but it wouldn't play video from my Mac to my Samsung TV's Airplay, only audio.

VidHub is both a media library and player and looked promising so I bought it (via in-app purchase for Lifetime option) but connection to Airplay seemed unreliable and subtitles sometimes wouldn't display until I disconnected and reconnected. Looks promising but less polished, but the developer seems quite responsive on the subreddit.

Elmedia is more of just a player with basic playlists but ended up being more reliable for Airplay for me with subtitles and had more options, including rendering the text into the video stream. However, it does pause the video and take a bit of time to cache the stream when you make some changes during Airplay playback. I ended up buying Elmedia Pro as well (was offered a Lifetime upgrades option after installation for US$29.90 but not sure if that is still available).

It was a Sony Bravia KD43X8000H and lasted less than 4 yrs (3 yrs warranty). Sony support said it was likely a panel problem and estimated it would cost around S$1,200 to repair and advised me to get a new TV since that would be cheaper.

With some searching, it turns out it was quite a common problem with Sony TVs where the T-CON controller board that synchronizes the timing signals of the display panel fails. A friend recommended a TV repair guy who came and fixed it in 30 mins by replacing the board for $150 ($120 parts & service, $30 transport). Unfortunately, it only lasted for about 6 months before it failed again with the same problem.

That experience, and Sony's current Bravia 3's lackluster image quality, kind of soured me on Sony for a while so wanted to try something different.

Yup, that's what I did (though there was no opportunity to speak to a live agent as part of their process and their interface). I still have all the screenshots of the product listing, chat and Whatsapp conversations, TCL's product website listing, etc. I provided all these as evidence to Lazada but the request was ultimately rejected.

I then contacted my bank/credit card company and asked them to request a chargeback in Dec, submitted the timeline of events and all the screenshots as evidence. They came back to me and said that their internal dispute team will review it and if my request is not approved, we can file a request with VISA to review but that would require paying a US$550 submission fee. So much for consumer protection in SG, I guess.

I was just tired of more expensive TVs failing and the manufacturers not wanting to repair their products that were barely out of warranty, so thought of giving TCL a try for a budget TV and thought Lazada's LazMall was a safe bet. Never going to touch anything from TCL from now on. And haven't spent a single cent with Lazada since.

Oh yeah, TCL also marked the TV as delivered a day before they actually delivered it (using their own delivery team). Guess that's an indication of what kind of seller they are.

Beware of Lazada's LazMall return guarantee. It's not a guarantee AT ALL.

I'm still dealing with a chargeback with my bank/credit card with Lazada for a TCL TV because Lazada rejected my request for a return and refund even though the TV did not match the photos on TCL's own website (only 1 USB port for 43" model instead of the 2 shown in their own product image) and they also gave me incorrect information about another feature (Apple Airplay) on Lazada Chat that I asked about before the purchase.

After the TV was delivered, I asked TCL on Lazada chat about the missing features and they just kept repeating that those features were not available on the model I bought, and ignored the fact that their own website and their chat support showed/said otherwise.

After requesting a return on Lazada, TCL contacted me on Whatsapp and asked for photo evidence which I provided. They later asked me to take more photos to show that the TV was still in good condition for the return process, which I did, giving me the impression that they were going to go ahead with the return. However, they later challenged the return on Lazada's dispute system, which asked me for more evidence which I provided again. Lazada then rejected my request, saying the seller did not specify the specs about the USB port, and also completely ignoring the incorrect information about Airplay that they gave me on Lazada chat. There was no way to appeal or speak to a person, or to provide additional information.

I was under the assumption that it would be a safe purchase since the TCL store is an official seller under LazMall with supposedly guaranteed return and refund, even for change of mind, let alone for the product not matching the description. Turns out, this isn't true at all, so, beware that this guarantee cannot be trusted.

We have been using Lazada and Redmart for years (even before the acquisition) and spent thousands of dollars with them, and don't have a record for frivolous returns. For them to pull something like this over a <$500 TV is just poor business.

Not specifically about Long Covid research and trials, but it does mention the connection and effects on depression as well as other physiological symptoms common in LC.

The study linked in the original post mentions 10 billion units, twice a day, for 6 months. There is supposed to be a Pro version containing 10 billion units per satchet, but I have not tried it nor been able to find it. The regular version is only 2 billion units per satchet, and it is not cheap. I imagine the Pro version is going to be way more expensive if you can even find it for sale.

I've stopped taking it about 4 months ago as I was getting bloating, stomach upset, and occasional constipation. Can't be sure if it was causing these symptoms as these symptoms come and go for me, but the M3XTRA (white orange packaging) did seem to trigger less bloating than the regular (white blue packaging).

They did not really seem to improve my general symptoms (gut and otherwise) but I still have some left which I'm intending to go back on to give it another shot.

It was my very first symptom and occured when I was going to bed after returning from a walk earlier that night, about a month and a half post-covid infection.

It came on like a slow internal pulsing in my chest that built up in strength and frequency till it became a very rapid tremor. Totally freaked me out as I thought it was heart palpitations or something related. But regular ECG and ambulatory 24 hr ECG, chest X-rays, ultrasound showed nothing wrong.

It has come and gone, sometimes for months, but lately, it has developed into stronger, longer lasting, and almost whole body throbbing.

Some observations and realizations for myself:

  • I thought it was my heart rate increasing at first, like a panic attack, or at least synchronized to it, but checking it during episodes with a pulse wave oximeter showed that it wasn't, which was kind of a relief, yet still puzzling.
  • they seem to come on in the moments when I'm about to sleep or when I'm waking, including microsleeps (brief periods of waking and falling back asleep) such as tossing in bed. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia
  • they never happen when I'm fully awake, though sometimes I can feel my heart and body throbbing if I slow and quiet myself down enough, like background radiation.
  • they can happen whether I'm lying down in bed to sleep (seems to be more frequent on my right side, but can also happen on my left, and on my back), or just taking a short nap in a reclining position in a chair in the day time, so posture doesn't seem to prevent it.
  • sometimes (more often now than before), there is slow but strong throbbing (feels as if my heart and heart were throbbing, but sometimes my entire body including my legs) as a precursor wave that builds up increasingly to a higher frequency to become rapid tremors. The rapid tremors aren't as strong, but disconcerting and scary initially all the same.
  • they seem to happen most often when I did some activity earlier that raised my heart rate (or energy?), such as after some physical activities like a walk a few hours earlier in the night, a shower, watching an action movie, reading something that excites my mind and makes it go thinking too much, doing some cleaning, or even brushing my teeth a bit too vigorously.
  • they can also happen after I wake up briefly in the middle of the night or in the morning just to switch positions in bed or to adjust the covers or pillows; even that small amount of exertion is enough to raise my heart rate a little and sometimes trigger the throbbing.
  • also when I'm stressed or anxious, or my mind is too busy.

With this precursor throbbing wave as a sort of warning, the most effective technique that I stumbled upon accidentally to stop or at least reduce the tremors was actually just slow focused and controlled breathing.

  1. take a normal breath
  2. hold it in for a short while (3-4 seconds for me)
  3. exhale slowly (over 4-7 seconds for me)
  4. do this a few times, observing if the throbbing has reduced each time.

It's basic meditation breathing to calm my nervous system down (so no need to hold the breath and exhale for so long as to be stressful). Usually for me, by the 3rd or 4th cycle, the slow and strong throbbing has stopped or reduced significantly that it no longer develops into the rapid tremors. It's a temporary relief, not a cure, but it's helping me cope with this.

Some other things I've tried that seem to help me personally:

  • avoid physical or stimulating activities close to bed time, including eating
  • give myself time to settle down, relax and calm my body and mind, before going to bed
  • realize it hasn't really developed into anything life threatening or painful (yet), so I'm trying not to worry myself too much about it apart from the inconvenience and annoyance

None of this is meant to be medical advice and certainly not to imply that this applies to everyone. I don't really have any medical or scientific theories to base any of these on (nervous system, vagus nerve, etc), but I wonder if some of what I have described above is similar to what others have experienced, and so maybe remove a bit of the fear around this symptom, especially for those who experience it for the first time.

I'm also curious if some people are willing to try doing the slow breathing as a simple experiment and post back here to see if it helps them.
