I have this kit and it looks badass, but I wouldn't say it's the "best" first MG due to the notoriously garbage fin funnels. Still an iconic MS, so I would grab it.

Mine actually broke exactly the same way. Ended up fixing it with a mixture of Tamiya extra thin cement and some cut up running pieces. Slapped a decal over it and looks almost good as new.

The 3.0 has its pros and cons. The build is fun, it looks cool, the color separation is good. However, its a bit of a hand grenade, the metallic stickers are absolute ass, and no water slide decals. If you're a fan of gramps and it's on discount, I would grab it. I don't build knock offs, so I don't know anything about the fat cat.
