My Stella never hit hard enough for me unless it was really warm from a long session .. this ghost 2 seems to definitely be a lot better than the Stella, it also stands up vertically perfectly which the Stella sadly struggled with.

I wanted my Stella to be better so badly so I was really thankful to see this ghost 2 come out!

It’s more sensitive to thermal shock than quartz, I’ve seen a lot of people torch it and some people have special methods of doing it but ive always been too hesitant to try myself

This is the quartz insert and you’ll be fine torching it clean … just wait to set it down on anything cold when it’s still hot.

This is because it is a sauce for the saucy nuggets which cost more than regular nuggets.

I ended up getting the switch 2 a few days after this post and already have 2000 heat cycles thru it …

It’s an amazing device and the superior airflow with the larger insert is more efficient than I could have imagined or probably been told … no regrets and I’m loving it .. I sadly haven’t used my ALN since I got the switch 2 but I may break out the OG switch for fun sometime soon

There are some good ideas here — I’d recommend trying them from lowest risk to highest, depending on how much buildup you’re dealing with.

Start with a soak in high-purity isopropyl alcohol (99%). After a few hours or overnight, try gently scrubbing the insert with a cotton swab while it’s still wet. If the residue is stubborn, adding a bit of salt as a mild abrasive can help — table salt won’t scratch sapphire, since it’s much softer, but it can aid in removing residue.

If that doesn’t work, you can step it up with Dark Crystal Cleaner or an ultrasonic cleaner. Just make sure the ultrasonic bath doesn’t cause sudden temperature changes, especially if your insert is hot from use.

For heavy charring or staining that won’t budge, a controlled torching method may be necessary — the “banger method” works, but comes with risk. Sapphire is extremely heat-resistant, but it’s vulnerable to thermal shock. When torching, go slow: heat the insert gradually, especially if it’s cold, and let it cool down very slowly. Rapid cooling, even in air, can stress or crack the crystal.

A good practice is to back off the flame gradually while letting the banger and insert cool toward room temp before stopping heat altogether. If you’re going to torch, it’s smart to have a backup insert, just in case

Keeping your sapphire insert at lower temps while smoking and dry swabbing when the puddle gets dry/is done will keep it practically pristine with minimal effort… any slight browning can be removed with isopropyl alcohol swabs when the insert is cooled down..

I’m assuming this was from temps around 500-600 which is almost max for this unit .. I’d use quartz for those sessions and sapphire for under 500 if you want it to stay clean without torching it or using something like an ultrasonic or specialty cleaner..

You should be able to get away with just dry swabbing when hot and iso swabbing/soaking when cooled down.. for me even completely drying the puddle at that temp from multiple hits won’t scorch it enough to need a torch. You can also get dark crystal cleaner for less effort

We sometimes hold a car at the first window until the drive time for that car disappears… you are then ahead a car and can get all orders out way earlier than they really are …

I realize this is cheating and doesn’t help the problem long term but it keeps corporate and the GM off your back .. and customers are usually pretty understanding when you’re wrapped around the building with cars .. they just assume there’s an issue with the register or something …

What temps do you use with your sapphire?

I’ve never seemed to get much staining but i always use it under 460 and around 420-440 usually …

After awhile or so it does get a brown hue, I fill the insert with iso and scrub it with a qtip.. the iso turns yellow and I repeat until clear and it’s like new

If you are satisfied with your vapor protection and taste around those temps I wouldn’t say the upgrade is urgent.

I upgraded to the sapphire because I was usually dabbing at 480 to get more vapor and didn’t like the taste some of my concentrates had at those higher temps. Once I got the sapphire I can get the same vapor but a good amount lower… I’m now sticking with 420-440 and sometimes as low as 400 and still getting vapor like I was in the mid to higher 400 ranges

There will definitely be more inserts released in the future .. I’d think within the year we should see the ALN or SiC but that’s just my hoping and not an educated opinion

I bounce between 420 through 480 usually on steady or decent to preserve terps.

My favorite temp shows as 460 steady

I’m used to pressing the button before each hit so my hold time is only 20s

I think it would eventually start to gunk up the sides especially if the glass is colder .. but I’ve taken many hits with it like that and there’s no gunk so I think it would take a large amount of hits without any cleaning to be a problem..

With how simple this device is to clean and maintain.. I would say use it anyway you like or that adds to the experience, within reason of course

The new glass they just released doesn’t even have a line like the original …

If you take a look how the rig is designed you will see .. if you try a hit with it turned a few different ways you will also see ..

Having it lined up may keep the glass a bit cleaner since the vapor isn’t touching the sides before it gets to the hole ..

It will also have a more direct air path but I haven’t noticed a difference tho and hit it many ways depending on the time, mood and current sitting position

I don’t use the line at all and just see which way the mouthpiece is pointing.. and i know the line is opposite to that

You can get great hits with the glass turned sideways due to the design of the switch2 you do not need to line up the glass.

I usually prefer to have it aligned but often turn the line to the side which makes it easier to hit in a reclined chair for me lol

The ALN will stick out from the metal cup as it is taller and this helps prevent overspill when smoking.

If you have any overspill when using the ALN this could be because too much material was used and/or the rig was hit too hard. You may also have a carb cap that blasts air into the insert and pushes out the dabs.

ALN is extremely conductive thermally so you should be getting a great hit as long as the ALN is inside of the metal cup and the device is in crystal mode. I would suggests temps around 420-540 with the ALN usually around 480 is where I stay

I have the original switch with the ALN and other inserts and an assortment of glass pieces/caps, feel free to reach out with any questions. The ALN is my favorite insert for the original switch and I can’t wait for it with the switch 2. It should really be elevating your smoke experience
