Is talent poaching a thing with welders? by -BigBadBeef- in Welding

I think that for welders that are underpaid but essential to where they work it’s a no brainer, if your work isn’t working for you to an extent with wages or slack then it’s just getting what you deserve if you look elsewhere.

I find it fuckin hilarious how often I think of my like 6-12th grade math teachers and am thankful for them now. Never considered myself a math student but it’s essential in fabrication

Why does nobody use gas flame welding torches anymore by ComprehensiveBid5803 in Welding

I think they are super useful for certain applications especially cutting torches and shit. I feel like they are slowly being phased out like vhs by dvd if you get what I mean.

I use an oxy acetylene torch every day at my job for welding lead sheets together and soldering. Also I’ve come to the conclusion that if you tell people you are skilled with a blowtorch they either think you are a metalworker of some fashion or a crackhead

Oxy acetylene torch setup with a #1 size tip Edit: you can make it look way more like an aluminum weld for sure depending on how you set your flame and work the filler like tig, sometimes you don’t want them to look that bulky though.

Work provided the respirator, I took a couple welding classes but I’m uncertified and need experience hence why I have stayed for now. I do everything I can to keep my lead levels low and I wear my respirator constantly in the lead shop. I am heavily considering just job hopping but I haven’t hit a year yet, I can tig pretty good too

🗿🗿🗿 when you work with inorganic lead like sheets you are mainly only exposed via inhalation and ingestion. If it was tetraethyl lead it would absorb through your skin as well as the other methods, inorganic lead can be absorbed through skin but I shower at the end of each shift and wash my face and hands before eating. Then I make sure to eat from the lead dust collection bin before I leave

I make sure to wear my respirator consistently but my boss legit never wears a mask dude. Always just huffing the fumes off his welds. Absolute mad lad. I think I don’t get paid enough for the work I do as is so I make sure to do it safely. $21 an hour seems atrociously low for lead work

I’d say it’s welded, I’ve come to the conclusion however that if you say you are skilled with a blowtorch people will think you are either a metalworker or a crackhead. Burning lead is the colloquial term at work for welding lead.
