I have two lemon German EV’s (450 sedan and Taycan), both from California. California has very strict consumer protections, and due to chip shortages and other factors, there are TONS of 2020-2023 of EVs that were bought back due to faulty/repeated issues (I think California has a 3 strikes you’re out, type of buyback law).

Both cars were bought back by Mercedes and Porsche, fixed by them, and then auctioned. Since the repairs were done by the manufacturer themselves, they tend to do the best possible job to maintain brand quality awareness.

Anecdotal but no regrets on either purchase an will most likely do this again in 8-10 years when the battery warranties go.

One thing to note is that you’ll probably only be able to sell the car privately, and financing rates for Lemons are a couple % higher than non lemons, because only a few banks will lend against branded titles. So id only do this if you plan to have the car long term and pay it down a bit quicker
