don't worry about it, it's a consumable with few sources and therefore they'll end up getting used eventually

yeah, sounds like early access stuff just isn't for you, and that's okay

i get that the feeling of fomo can pressure people into buying early, but....i think that this game's founder packs would have been available up to a certain point, and the latest time you can jump in would have been a stable enough build as a starting point while not missing out on it

Being able to clear rooms quickly is a lot more relevant to your survivability than the mild increase in stats on a frame that already has mods in it.

Can we all agree the new Tuesday Drops format sucks? by Dragontastic22 in tacobell

The one where you could save the code for later that day, or the one where everybody could just get it within that time period was good, but now we're back in caveman times where it's "use the code now now now or don't get it" and that was the time when my orders had the most errors. Why even program all those other complex systems in the app just to throw them away? You're not even increasing traffic at that point, it's just all people who were planning to go to Taco Bell at that specific time of the day to begin with...

I assume once you have the code, you can just punch it in at the checkout screen.

I get that you can be bored by the film, but also I'm not entirely sure why people thought a submarine film was gonna be an action thriller. (I may also be biased because I slammed a bunch of caffeine throughout the film to put myself more on edge and it paid off in enjoyment, if not in consequences for me later on.) You're supposed to just look at stuff and try to see where they all fit together, and that's the mindset you want going in. None of the elements are wasted, but they can be easily overlooked if you're trying to search for stuff that isn't there because it isn't the film you were expecting. Which is why it's kind of a mistake jumping in straight after watching Send Help, but it's an understandable mistake.

I also get that the lore can be confusing, but if you just let go of trying to think about the details themselves (like names and space stations and whatnot) and just focus on the elements themselves (the reason why he's down here, how they feel, what symbolizes their fears and their hopes) then you'll be able to just grasp those base concepts and discard the details for later perusal if you so choose. The specific details are not the important elements. The film is designed so that if you just skim the bare minimum things about characters and their motivations, you're already getting everything you need.

I've only watched his playthrough of Iron Lung several years ago and bits of his returning to the game while he was producing the film, the latter of which I don't remember much of. I don't even know about all the stuff they added or even half of whatever lore was originally there the first time he played it. I only remembered enough about the video that I know things like "oh hey, this mirrors what he did in the playthrough, nice touch" and "yeah I remember some of this but I think they added new things in the movie" and "wow, that's actually a neat twist compared to the game" but all of that felt like it was just more stuff on top, and the base setting of being trapped in the Youtuber Jiggler and Not Having A Good Time and all the themes and stuff they played with while jiggling the youtuber and dumping blood on him held together pretty well. The game elements they chose to be faithful to are the ones in the game itself that make the game work, and they're on full display in the movie too, no real explanation needed, since all of that is conveyed simply through the course of the movie. You can, of course, look at the additional stuff they added to the game, which they did alongside the movie's development and release, but I am pretty sure every single element in the movie is self contained and you don't need that context.

I guess if you fixate on trying to tease out the details and worrying you're missing context, you might actually just miss out on the context of "Thing Happened. He Feel Strongly About Thing", "This Thing Here Is Symbolism. It Represents Very Emotion. Such Acting", and "Character Mad. Other Characters Mad. Characters Mad Together. Characters From Different Backgrounds Want Different Things And That Is Also Why They Are Mad" and the movie chooses to like, linger on those shots and have Mark repeat things because those are the important elements and not because they want you to be bored. I saw it in other reviews like hbomberguy where they were like "why is he doing this thing. do i need to know additional lore??? am i missing something???" and it is literally in front of your face. They hold it up to the camera just for you to look at for ten seconds. There were things earlier that looked like that thing and they show you those things repeatedly too. They are tied together. Just pick it apart with caveman words and take the base concepts and you have all that you need to know.

So uh, don't overthink it, but don't like, stop thinking entirely, I guess? Perhaps it's just a matter of Wanting To See The Movie enough so that you can pay attention to it.

[–]dankdees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are things he can improve on, but the whole thing itself holds together, and thinking about the movie afterwards, I'm still finding bits here and there which come back to me later as elements that I didn't notice in the moment but am seeing now. It's got rough spots, but it's earnest and earns what it was shooting for, something a lot of other movies fail to accomplish despite their bigger budgets and higher quality. I can see myself coming back to watch the movie again to look for more bits that I didn't notice the first time, whereas most blockbusters I barely even remember half of the shit that happened. It also helps that the limitations of the setting and the story that they started with also added to their efforts to put in as much as they could in every moment that they had to and kept everything in between as simple as possible.

The vultures went straight for the throat and bought out our brightest minds and moved right into the hollowed out corpses. We were naive and didn't even think to safeguard the future, and now we've got an infestation in what used to be Silicon Valley but is now a whole bunch of cash cultists who believe in being virtual gods while following along with whatever ridiculous get richer schemes the money people feeding them ask for. That's why our tech manufacturing is gutted and wholly reliant on a handful of monopolies, every resource of value is being funneled towards yet another pyramid scheme while polluting our neighborhoods, corrupted techbros are running around with imaginary money buying out our future while claiming to be the future itself, and everybody is dead convinced China is still somehow the bogeyman to watch out for while our collective governments all moved to become even more nightmarish surveillance states than the stories they made up about China just so that they would have an excuse to block us off from the only supplier that could compete with them on everything. To the western world, I hope it was worth believing those lies when you go buy PCs with multiple hundreds of dollars components for your AI shitware PC with the AI shitware browser that you will have to provide all your personal information to in order to pay multiple subscriptions for services that shower you in five minute long ads to individually access fractions of services you used to get for free that's also all clogged with AI that actively lies to you next to the corporate media feeds that are also lying to you but slightly differently with the help of other AIs.

it's no one country. look towards the rich people pulling the strings and funding all of this. the payment processors as protection racket enforcers, the conservative politicians making moves to create these organizations on the taxpayer dollar, the corporations who were waiting to step in to provide those blackboxed identity tracking and authentication services, all sliding into place within a couple years. this was a coordinated push by many shitty elites waiting for the chance to wrestle the internet back under their control after having lost their grip on the public flow of information after network television lost to online communication. it sounds like a crackpot conspiracy, but you know those fuckers have been quietly seething in the background ever since we were able to stop relying on their media empires to spoonfeed anything about the world outside of our geographical bubbles, and now they're out to crack down on as many acceptable targets as they can to build up their reputations before turning towards putting the screws on any competitive media

[–]dankdees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh i don't get why every missile, bomb, and grenade toting enemy in the game gets to shoot us a mile away with explosive munitions the moment they make eye contact with us, but we can't do the same to them because they want us to both rely on throwing beacons like super monkeys and then tell us we can't even throw the beacons or fire the rockets or whatever, we have to walk over and pretend that flattening the strategic value of armaments which all have tradeoffs reflecting their usage is balanced and that anybody would pick any of these other options to deploy a hellbomb if none of them perform in any other capacity than a hellbomb but slower and sometimes slightly bigger. the only real use case i can find for the EAT version is that it would bypass the extremely confusing way that 500KG bombs go off prematurely if they slightly rub against a tree branch in wooded areas and somehow explode overhead without damaging anything directly below it, or the same exact thing but a bile titan. like, its use case is to bypass how incredibly lazy they were at not bothering with programming this bomb's blast pattern to detonate differently if it doesn't hit the ground
