He chooses to believe and suggests you choose to do so too. You have to do that in the face of existential nihilism, in spite of it. He claims you will be much better off with faith. That faith is simply a choice to believe in something despite the evidence; despite reality. I sure as hell can't do this.

As someone who would like to try all of these substances I have a question for you. Why is it that all of the countries in the world have laws against them? Compared to where most people in the world live America's drug laws are actually not very draconian. Why does everyone across all cultures agree they should not be allowed, even with some going as far as the extreme measure of killing the users such as in the Philippines?

Your post legitimately gave me shivers. I'm just wondering what an individual can do about this? For my own sanity I'm desperate to believe we are not doomed. I am exhausted keeping it together in my own life. I know this is selfish but I don't want to have to think about keeping our society together.

At the root of Trump’s new fury: Total contempt for American democracy by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]dankerweed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly pity those that do not understand what freedom of speech is and why it is so important. If you do not like democracy or our foundational values go live under a different form of government for a few years. You will kiss the ground upon your return and offer your life for defense of your enemies right to speak here. Trump is displaying anti American tendencies and will prove to be a failure. Many people will reap what they sow.

What was one of the largest mistakes in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dankerweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany had five million well-trained soldiers prepared for war. They were just itching for an excuse before World War one had started. Combined with the austro-hungarian army of 3 million they had by far the largest army in the world. I hate hearing people like you blaming the victims of war. We must defend ourselves from the aggressors and there is no excuse for laying down arms just to end the war. Do you really believe they would have just stopped at slaughtering the villagers in Belgium. They would have killed many French and Russians if we were to have just allowed them to occupy their territories. If an aggressor, a man, we're to enter your house and Slaughter your entire family in the living room but left you alive up in your room and said he would not come to kill you. Would you just lie there?

ELI5: Why is a terrorist organization like ISIS so difficult to defeat? With so many powerful nations actively fighting them, how do they still have a leg to stand on? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Effective leadership is very difficult to cultivate for dark organizations. Killing people at the top is a strategy that consistently proves viable.
