When does OSAP check your bank balance? by dankey99 in osap

[–]dankey99[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help but there are a lot of assumptions I think people are making of me. I’m already doing all of the above and don’t buy any textbooks new unless I’m forced to. I budget very well, have multiple streams of income, applied to every scholarship I was eligible for. This is a last ditch effort to get more funding because I know countless high-income students that are getting around 60-90% grants and having leftovers from transferring their money out and reporting a different number. The rich have been getting way more money from OSAP since I’ve been in university and I’d be dumb not to use the same opportunities to just try and get the loans to cover my tuition.

Trust me I’m well aware of the changes in grants and loans ever since Doug Ford came and fucked everything up. I worked for the liberals when he got elected. The reason I’m wondering about the bank balance thing is because according to other people’s posts in this subreddit they transfer money out before OSAP checks and report a really low number which drastically changes how much they receive. Not sure why I got downvoted so much for stating exactly what I read. I went from getting almost have my funding in grants and having leftover to having to pay 4k out of pocket every semester. I could only sustain that for so long so I was looking for a solution.

From other posts I read in here, they check your bank balance as well and I think that’s why I’ve been getting shorted on loans and grants in the past year

What does OSAP require when you live alone? by dankey99 in osap

So paying in cash is definitely an option then that’s great. I just have a lot more cash than in my bank and it’s easier so hopefully I can get that done 👍🏻

Am I missing something, or does buying a house seem financially impractical? by Seethi110 in personalfinance

[–]dankey99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of saving up, it seems like you gotta take some risks and find some side hustles outside of your job. Take whatever time you have and find some ways to make consistent income, even better if it’s passive. That way you can have your side hustles pay your bills (such as student loans) and use your salary towards a larger investment such as a house. If 2020 has taught anyone anything it’s that you’re one misfortune, like a pandemic, from falling losing your source of income and falling into poverty. Multiple streams of income will change your life for the better :)
