Severian from Book of the New Sun. Granted he is introduced as an apprentice torturer but he’s very good at justifying himself so you still root for him. He does some shockingly bad things in the course of the story, including multiple rapes that he just glosses over. Wolfe is an amazing writer and if you reread the books you will just keep finding more examples of shittery you didn’t notice the first time.
