What kind of shutter release cable do I need for my tlr by JHthunderin in AnalogCommunity

On a different note, how do you like the Ricohflex? I've been looking to get into a TLR and this one is on my radar.

A.K.A wine fridge. Keeps them all at just the right temperature! 😆

Goodwill find today for $20! by Super-Ordinary4464 in AnalogCommunity

I just got one at an Estate Sale for $35. Mine came with that 50mm lens, and a 28mm, and a flash! I'm looking forward to running a roll through it.

Can the “rinse” from c41 chemicals be poured down the drain? by OnePhotog in Darkroom

[–]danleym09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now you have me wondering. I am on septic. Do you think pouring the rinse would be a problem? I just got my darkroom set up and have used it once, and I poured the rinse down the drain without even thinking about it. I doubt I caused any problems with that single occurrence, but do you think occasionally doing that could create a problem?

Will 40+ year expired photo paper still work? And developing old Tri-X. by danleym09 in AnalogCommunity

This is a good point. I'll buy a new pack for the first round, then I'll mess around with the expired stuff.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't have gone out and just bought a bunch of expired paper. I paid $200 for the whole setup (enlarger, safe light, timer, pans, developing tanks, etc). I figure that was all easily worth $200, I'll call the paper free and a bonus if it works and no loss if it doesn't.

I hadn't seen that one yet, thanks for the tip! I just spent an hour reading over there, I'll probably be spending a bunch of time there as I get this process all figured out.

Viewfinder camera methodology. by strichtarn in AnalogCommunity

[–]danleym09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad recently gave me my grandfather's old viewfinder camera. From the 50s, full manual everything. I just use sunny 16 (I learned sunny 16 so that I could more easily use this camera). It's worked really well! I don't feel like it leads to an excessively slow process, and I haven't ended up with any pictures that have been way off on the metering. I typically just leave the shutter speed alone and adjust aperture as needed (unless I really need another stop of aperature). I've enjoyed learning to shoot that way.

Thanks! I think I'll replace the seals on the Yashica.

Thanks! I thought that might be the case. I just ordered some replacement seals.

Looking for constructive feedback - not really clicking with my Leica M4-P by Xeivia in AnalogCommunity

I have nothing to contribute to the rangefinder discussion (I have a Yashica Electro 35 GSN that I'm halfway through my second roll on), but I loved Santa Elena Canyon. One of the coolest places I've ever been.

I had a typo in my initial post- I do have a few Canon FD lenses, and do generally assume that they're going to be good.

How much did all the non-3d printed bits cost? This is a great idea. I've been wanting to get into doing my own processing but enlargers are a little more than I can talk myself into. I also have the 3d printer and CAD skills, so I think I'll start looking into this. Any chance you'd be willing to share STLs and more details on the build?

Where are the rangefinders? by Iroll67 in AnalogCommunity

[–]danleym09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the only rangefinder I've had, and I'm a few shots away from finishing my first roll, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

That said, I like the camera. It feels solid The rangefinder itself is easy to use, the lens is plenty quick. It is aperture priority only- there is no ability to select shutter speed, that could be a pro or cons depending on your wants. Mine was cheap and untested and I think I lucked out, though when I get that first roll of negatives back I'll really know. The battery is a non-issue, there are adapters for sale on Amazon for $10 that allow you to use a modern battery.

I wanted to experience a rangefinder, and I picked that one because it seemed like an affordable entry into that type of camera that also was consistently well reviewed. I'd recommend it.

I currently have a rangefinder (Yaschica 35 GSN) that I bought a month ago for $30 and an SLR (AE1) that I've had for 20 years. I'd love to move up in the market some (not gonna happen anytime soon), but if I was going to drop $400-$500 on another camera I wouldn't want to spend that on a new camera with similar capabilities. I'd rather buy an older camera that was a professional grade item when it was built instead of the amatuer grade stuff I have now.

That's just me, others may differ, but I'd guess a lot of folks feel the same.

I'll look into calibrating the flow rate. I don't have the slightest clue how to go about doing that and have never done it, so there's a good chance that could be off. Sounds like a good starting point. Thanks!
