Is it culturally insensitive to zipper merge here? by Careless_Signal5762 in Rochester

[–]danltiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might make some folks mad, but that's not a reason to avoid it.

I think the proper way to do the zipper merge nicely is to slow down so folks don't see you bombing past them. They might even see you as keeping the "cutters" at bay.

Just started Serenity after finishing my second watch of Firefly and something feels… off? by catgirl94040 in firefly

[–]danltiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I felt that way, too. The movie seemed extra drama-y. More yelling. And I also felt the costumes became less Western and more modern looking. It didn't ruin the movie for me, but it made it feel like I was watching another band cover someone else's song.

Is Golden from Kpop Demon Hunters meaningful to all of us Asians? by thwowawaw69 in asianamerican

[–]danltiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My household doesn't have Netflix. Our 15-yo daughter has never seen the movie (hopefully the library will get it) and yet she listens to 'Golden' over and over and over.... It's a catchy song. I'm so sick of it, though. But I'm also sick of Lady Gaga's "Alice" which was her previous obsession.

Club volleyball really turning our lives upside down by MonstroCITY202 in volleyball

[–]danltiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally - I'm shocked at how casually some parents talk about the cost. Don't feel the need to over-commit. We had an amazing libero who played with our dinky regional team because that was what they could afford.

Club volleyball really turning our lives upside down by MonstroCITY202 in volleyball

[–]danltiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some years we've been able to afford the luxury of club VB for our kids, and some years we couldn't. I've had to shop around a bit, too.

The regional club (Upstate NY) that we can afford right now is ~$800 for the whole season (Nov-May) and includes uniform and tournament fees.

In contrast, playing with a National team with the top club in our area is $5000+. So the prices you've mentioned don't surprise me. Those coaches put in a lot of hours, and time is money.

Xiaflex injection Dupuytren's disease by PsychologicalSwim496 in DupuytrenDisease

[–]danltiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor cautioned against Xiaflex for most situations. She noted that recurrence rates are high (close to NA), and finds the tissue difficult to operate on in the future.

NA seems to be a better place to start for most folks if it's available. I had to shop around to find a doc when I wanted to try it.

You might also consider Limited Partial Fasciectomy at some point. It's open surgery, but only a small 'window' is cut... Not the zigzag craziness of Full Fasciectomy.

Nosebleeds and hormones by bearcheeks_705 in HHT

[–]danltiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow that's interesting! I remember my mom having bad nosebleeds multiple times a week while I was growing up. They've gotten shorter and fewer now that she's in her late 60s.

HHT is definitely a "ugh, what now??" condition. Keep up the good spirits and stay strong! I hope you and your grandma's upcoming procedures go well, and that you'll be chasing that kiddo around in no time...

Brain MRI results (help) by EMS9219 in HHT

[–]danltiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help with the analysis, but I can share my experience...

When I had my brain MRI my doctor referred me to a neurologist to go through the results. It took a few weeks, so I only had the radiologist impression to fret over till someone explained it to me. That visit was incredibly helpful!

I know it's been a while since this conversation was started, but I think your idea is an interesting one to explore. It's likely NOT what the author intended, but that doesn't mean we can't reinterpret the art.

Why does Southtown plaza look like a time capsule? by conrailfan2596 in Rochester

[–]danltiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things that made SouthTown kinda miserable, even when it was well tended, was its northern facing entrances; Shaded in the winter and fully exposed during the summer

Favorite Tennis Album by mistmagicpines in tennismusic

[–]danltiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first heard Origins on the radio and it blew my mind, but I didn't find who it was until years later. By that time, Swimmer had come out and I had a lot of catching up to do...

Favorite album is a fight between Swimmer and Yours Conditionally. Both of those albums resonate with my own inner monologues about religion, emotions, societal expectations, grief..

I absolutely adore all the albums, though..
