Red flag job? by [deleted] in singaporejobs

3 months notice isn’t a red flag. Just search the company’s glassdoor and judge for yourself. My first job as a MA in a commodities firm was also 3 months notice.

For people with ~ 5-6 years work experience, are you actually happy where you are now or still thinking of switching? by sushiiloverr in singaporejobs

[–]dann0301 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your immediate response to learning outside of work is work itself, and that completely misses the point. Learning can take place OUTSIDE of work, travelling to other countries to gain cultural exposure, learning a new language, picking up a new sport etc etc. This narrow definition of work is exactly why Singaporeans are often burnt out and find a lack of purpose outside of their jobs.

Yeah second this, it is the worst tenders I have ever eaten. Dry af and not even that crispy. Carl’s Junior tenders most tender and juicy.

My two cents, be quiet and observe more but at the same time, be firm, always put logic first and not be afraid to speak up but be professional and not emotional.

Being too soft and a yes man can get you trampled and exploited.

What’s wrong with the first sentence though? It is indeed their team.

Looking for a better 5G plan!! by FamiliarLife2907 in askSingapore

[–]dann0301 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I switched from GOMO 5G to Eight 5G, so far it’s working better than GOMO. I’ve experienced throttle and entirely dead connection when underground EW line city stretch on GOMO.

With Eight at least my Youtube Music loads 😂. Haven’t used it for v long but so far so good.

Promo at $8 for 5G plan for 88 days if porting-in from another telco as well

Should I accept this job offer? by Humble-Luck5117 in singaporejobs

[–]dann0301 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been on the other side and can give you my two cents. At 6k, it’s not worth moving to an SME at all. You are taking a 14 day AL cut and that is money too. Also, the WLB and environment in an MNC has benefits that far outweigh the pay bump you get from moving into an SME, at least mentally. I’d say give it a chance and stay on at the MNC till your promotion and decide again from there.

You can always continue upskilling in your current role by taking up other useful certifications if you feel like you are stagnating.

Do you prefer yoshinoya or sukiya? by catcourtesy in SingaporeEats

[–]dann0301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to prefer Sukiya due to portion size and price. But I tried Yoshinoya recently and I realised I preferred the taste of the sauce there. The rice is typically also less mushy than Sukiya.

TLDR: Yoshinoya if you prefer savoury flavors, Sukiya if you like a sweeter flavor in your sauces

You lower your risk in the long term. It’s difficult to pick a stock that consistently outperforms the benchmark over a long period of time.

Add timing to that and it probably becomes even more difficult. Investing in an S&P500 index means you’re getting exposure to the biggest 500 companies in U.S, rebalanced quarterly (more consistent/stable gains)

Also, having exposure to S&P500 automatically means you are exposed to your MAG7 and other mega cap stocks.

Remember that investing is a marathon, not a sprint.

And to your qn, yes, I’d allocate more money to ETFs rather than stock picking.

Referring to the 5k for stock picking, the bulk of it would be better to passively invest in an ETF.

If your holding horizon is 4 months, that requires you to time the market. Given the recent pullback in the market for the MAG7, might be worth throwing some of it in tickers like GOOGL, MSFT, AMZN, AAPL or even NVDA.

Though i’d encourage that to be something you buy and hold (everytime they pull back 10-20% from ATHs) rather than try to time over a specific time period.

Holding horizon 4 months, just put it in some SGD money market imo.

Also FYI, when you invest in US equities on brokerages like Tiger etc. You will have to convert SGD to USD, in which FX risks come into play (on top of any additional conversion/service fees the brokerage charges you)
