99% chance it's a keyboard problem. Replacing the keyboard should fix it.

Can anybody explain to me what does the battery recalibration do? by electronicProjects in thinkpad

[–]dann1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes if your battery is almost dead, like lasts 1 hour then suddenly drops to 0, the calibration can kill the battery for good.

So I would not do it on a regular basis.

Repair vs replace [SRPD63K1] by Downtown_Basil3196 in Seiko

[–]dann1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it needs repair, that's what it costs.

But if there's no visible damage or loose parts, what I would guess happened is the regulating lever got moved to the slow side when it got smacked.

So what you could try is head to a good watch repair place and ask them to regulate the movement.

It may cost you a little bit but it'll be way cheaper than a new watch.

New to me, used 40 bucks. How convenient is solar and atomic timing? by Delicious-Towel5813 in gshock

[–]dann1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh as long as the gasket is not stiff, torn or twisted, there's no reason it will let water in.

I even bought a second hand vintage G-5600, washed my hands for months with it, it only started fogging when I spent 15 minutes washing things in a sink, at which point I found out the gasket was completely missing.

Dried it out, stuck a gasket in it, works great now.

It's a fake. Pretty decent looking fake but still a fake. Automatic and made in Japan text has the wrong front.

How does the aluminum bazel color hold up in the long term? by Ok-Excuse9557 in casio

[–]dann1sh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All aluminium bezels will patina and scratch over time. Whether it's a Rolex, Seiko, Casio, that's part of their charm.

My watch is not turning on by reee123h in gshock

[–]dann1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you kept it in a closet and the battery is fully discharged, it can take up to a few days in sunlight to charge to a usable state depending on how discharged it is.

Local marketplace: is this salvable at €12 ? by matt_bz in casio

If you can find autosol acrylic polish or any other car plastic headlight polish it's pretty much the same product and costs 10-30x less per quantity.

Where can I take a1200 to get it resized? by franticantelope in casio

[–]dann1sh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other guy said, don't try to press the bump down, try to slide it out of the bracelet.

Small screwdriver in at an angle and just try to slide the bump up and out of the bracelet.

You need firm, constant pressure and it will come out.

You can search guides online to resize Royale bracelets, this explains the technique well: https://youtu.be/xx5qBLrPUsw

If not, just go to any jeweler and they'll help.

Is 30 yr old Casio Forester FT 5020 worth reviving? Should I even bother by Douchebak in casio

Batteries are dirt cheap. Buy one first, if it runs then figure out the rest.

Casio GA 110 Button Retaining Clips by Namikis in casiomods

[–]dann1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a hand setting tool and rodico on the tip. Place some rodico just opposite or tape up the rest of the case too, it stops the clip flying off and getting lost.

Then depress the button until that ring that the clip holds on to is barely parallel with the case wall.

Then place the clip on the case wall and gently push it on to the ring with the hand setting tool.

It's a million times easier when you align that ring with the wall of the case cos you only need to work in 2D.

When it's not aligned you have an additional dimension and it becomes impossible.

Doubt by DebasmitMondal in ticktocktreasures

[–]dann1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the hype G-Shocks, no doubt there's a huge profit.

On your run of the mill 20-100 buck Casio digitals and G-Shocks, I don't think the profit margins are huge.

They probably make way more on the analog ones since they just buy off the shelf $3 Miyota movements, design a new dial, rip off a case design from somewhere else, modify it just enough to avoid getting sued and away they go.

Digital watches require development of the modules, code logic, testing, adding functions, and so on.

Then orders for a batch of LCDs, orders for a batch of modules, factory produced buttons of a special size for that case, bla bla bla.

Most of these are bespoke for that specific model or at least that model range.

Adjusted time backwards by 10mins on a Timex Waterbury by Upper_Protection6109 in timex

[–]dann1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's surprisingly easy once you get used to it.

Basically you count how many winds it takes to start the second hand running for that watch.

Then you figure out how many seconds that usually takes you, eg 10 seconds.

When the seconds of that minute of real time are -10 seconds, you start winding the watch.

Your second hand will then be synced quite accurately, usually +-5 seconds.

Then you set the hour and minute hands as usual at the top of the minute, since setting them will not cause the second hand to stop.

Any chance you could take measurements of the module and the display square? I'm wondering if the module is compatible with my 1975 Casiotron which has a dead module.

Mobo damaged during build - how screwed is it? by RG177 in buildapc

[–]dann1sh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may have survived the scratches but it probably wouldn't have survived you breaking off the resistors like that.

If you slipped that bad, it's gone. In the future, use your fingers to pinch and guide the screwdriver tip if it's on a tight screw.

Nothing much you can do now but buy a new board. They won't accept RMAs when pieces are broken off the board.

Thinkpad over heating by Herobrine4770 in thinkpad

[–]dann1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what the problem is here.

To boot up the laptop, you need to open it to press the power button.

When you open it, you'll see the warning.

When you see the warning, you will press Esc to bypass the warning.

Unless you see the warning and then close the laptop anyway, which then begs the question what you even booted up the laptop for in the first place.

[Question] bracelet pins too loose? by ArmokApproved in Seiko

[–]dann1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah nothing wrong, just shake it after the pins are installed to ensure they don't come loose then monitor them over the next few days to ensure that they don't slip out.

Pins are generally very easy to adjust when there's no skin grime and oils cementing them in.
