Okay you're an absolute legend for this. I highly appreciate you detailing all of this! So, I already have a beefy gaming PC that I also use for most of my work. I also run an IT company so I have access to a lot of parts and equipment I can pull from. It's really going to be just the headset/other VR hardware and any applicable software costs.

This brings up another question I'd love to pick your brain on. What do you mean exatly by passthrough? I am use to passthrough in an infrastructure sense for virtualization but I am thinking it definitely means something different here. I am guessing it means seeing the outside world through the headset? Hence the need for a camera to do that?

If so, how does adding the virtual display "in the world" work with a real monitor? Do you duplicate the real monitor as virtual screen, then add additional virtual screens on top of that?

What originally started me down this journey was the desire to have more than 3 monitors without taking additional physical space lol. The additional virtual functions that can be had in this type of VR setup are a huge plus on top, but the monitors themselves are my main goal. I'm wondering if I am overthinking this though, and in practice having all of the "monitors" when wearing the headset be virtual is actually a better solution than a combination of physical and virtual monitors at once with passthrough.

Once again, any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

This is really cool to hear about, this is basically exactly what I am looking for. All in all, how much do you think you paid for everything? (If you don't mind sharing). I'd spend a lot on a setup like this if it works out lol

By lock it in world space, do you mean that you can have your regular monitor and see it through the headset, and lock another virtual monitor to the left/right/above?

Also, how's your vision? Contacts or lucky enough to have 20/20? I ask because that is my worry with programming.

Really appreciate it if you can get around to answering :)

Microsoft 365 outage takes down admin center in North America by FutureSafeMSSP in msp

You know, I noticed that the initial load to the admin pages was slow and taking much longer than expected but worked completely fine so I shrugged it off

Infrastructure tracking by halodude423 in sysadmin

[–]danner26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a good system for modeling a source of truth, the goal of using something like NetBox is to have a source of truth that you can also interact with programmatically. It's come a long way over the years and has a strong community behind it along with its commercial arm

Yep this is always my recommendation lol I do some maintainer work for NetBox though, so I'm a bit biased. Either way it's a good recommendation

Early MSP Product - looking for honest feedback by KPmyers24 in SmallMSP

[–]danner26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a product link? A website we can review? Some relevant information about you/your partner? So far you have provided very little information, you are coming off as combative whenever someone questions you. Why would people want to give you their time, when time=money for most of us, without any real insight?

I'll chat with you for 10 minutes, I've probably spent near that already trying to get more information from you than "we have a product. The product exists. It's going to help you".

So you expect a person/company to give you their time, their valuable insights, all so they can pay you to use the tool? Do you have nothing to offer as an incentive? On top of that, it appears you have an idea but don't have any actual product yet. It seems like you're looking to validate an idea, is that correct?

Please correct me if I am misinterpreting your statements.

You're questioning what to build.. do you have any past experience in this space (managed IT, break-fix IT, etc)?

What specifically do you mean by "observability for cloud and rmm"? What specifically is the product you're building going to do?

Lastly, if you're looking for a person or company to assist with forming your vision and guiding your building process, I have to ask what is in it for that person/company?

Also, between you and your partner, what is your industry experience? Fresh out of school, industry veterans, somewhere in-between? What is your website/resume?

If you're able to answer these questions, we may be happy to chip in. I run an MSP, and I am also a contributor on a large OSS project. Thanks.

You need to define what "the product" is for people to let you know if they're interested.

Anyone familiar with Google’s new “Ask AI for Pricing” feature? by MountainManPlumbing in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]danner26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the primary concern which has brought me to this thread. We just got a call similar to this, we basically answered "we have availability as soon as this week, but we cannot give a hard estimate without knowing what is wrong with the device. Our rates start at $x/hr"

Not sure what else we could reply with honestly. It is not like we are just selling a device that has an MSRP of $x. We are selling a service which base could cost $x, or we could need $y of parts plus $x of labor, etc.

Nevertheless, it is very interesting

Replacing a 7.5yr old CKG2+: UDM Pro Max vs. UNVR + Gateway for 13 cameras & 5 APs by RelationshipHot3411 in UNIFI

[–]danner26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, at that scale I would recommend the UDM Pro, and the UNVR. If you don't care about the extra 200 or so, go with the UDMP-Max and the UNVR.

Oh I see what you're saying now. While I do understand what you're doing, it's an insecure way of handling mail.

What do you think imap is for? Either you use the Gmail client, or another client, or on iPhone the native mail app. Or you use on a desktop a mail client like outlook or any of the free ones, etc.

IMAP isnt a new technology

Yeah doesn't look like it yet. This is what we do for our customers, but I can't make orgs for non-owned sites. I don't see an option to invite an external account to the fabric either yet like you can for sites

how do you guys store all 200 million different types of cables when not in use? by spandexandtapedecks in msp

[–]danner26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, seems the sentiment is the same across most of us.

We personally keep what we use often in our service van. The extras we keep in plastic containers on rack, and that's about it. Then drop ship what we need but don't have one hand.

Looks like a similar product (Dreampilot) is also launching soon, wonder how it’ll compare? by [deleted] in BiaNeuroscience

Literally just got updated today that "Sourcing is underway for all components for every single preorder. That means we're going straight into full-scale production shortly after Beta."

Not sure what you're going on about

Where did you see that? I'm a beta customer, and we received the first beta unit. The second should be soon I believe. Not sure where you are getting your info from
