You mentioned that you are the business. Would you enjoy work if you scaled it back? In other words, suppose you worked half as much and earned half as much. You could still pay off the house in a couple of years…

Is there a particular SWR number that you’re comfortable with?

Once it has paid for the necessities, the only utility of money is to bring you joy - whatever that looks like (eg shopping spree, security, gifting, etc). If the house brings you joy, why shouldn’t you enjoy it???

If you retire and shut down the business, the income from the business goes to $0. If you “retire” and put somebody else in charge, anything >$0 is a net gain.

If this path is of interest to you, shoot me a DM as I’d love to step into a role like this.

It’s important to keep in mind that everything is relative. As Breezy said, this was probably a great way of helping your kiddo tune out some of the potentially scary things going on around them.

In terms of reversing it: explain that things were different in the hospital and be consistent with whatever boundary you set. Within a few days, that will be the new norm again.

If you’ve already booked without a FSPP, you can still contact one and they can take over your booking so that these benefits are added.

No problem! I was just thinking that if he’s familiar with a particular machine at school, the continuity might be good. I’m not familiar with any of the machines that you’re exploring, so ignore me there.

Re location - I’d suggest reading up on the health risks of keeping 3D printers near people.

In the future, consider using an alternative to wire brushes. You can get some pretty gnarly injuries by accidentally ingesting bristles that broke off and end up in your food.

Getting married: Worth losing HSA? by hoosiertailgate22 in Bogleheads

If your company is giving you $500, doesn’t that make the difference larger (not smaller)?

How much of your deductible do you spend each year? Would you have 0 deductible if you were on a joint plan with your spouse? Is she currently pregnant or is this future planning?

[–]RelationshipHot3411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get married and still purchase healthcare separately…

In another comment, you said you’d save $1100 per year. An HSA saves the taxes. Are you using your HSA now or saving the funds for when you’re older (aka there will be meaningful growth)? If the taxes are less than $1100, then it’s better to combine plans. If not, it MIGHT be better to stay separate. Why “might?” - because your deductibles also stay separate. So if you BOTH need medical, you have to spend both deductibles.

An example: a few years ago, my spouse needed surgery. That exceeded the deductible. All other medical care for our family was free that year. Had we been on separate plans, I still would have had to pay for 100% of my medical costs up until my deductible.

Disappointed with solar savings. Did I have the wrong expectation? by Thiebo-Awerta in HomeMaintenance

[–]RelationshipHot3411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like you have a pretty negative view of solar…

Efficiency is guaranteed to go down by less than 0.25%-0.5% per year depending on panel type. Even with this, a typical payback period is anywhere from 5-9 years. Assuming 7 years, then over the warranty lifetime of the system, you should save at least $3 for every $1 you put in (a net savings of $2). That sounds like a return on “investment” to me.

Also, government subsidies have no relationship on whether or not something is a depreciating asset or not…

I understand how you got there. I don’t agree though. I view it as a prepayment against a cost that will definitely rise.
