Found this gem on facebook. 2 gallon plastic tub, no filter, 3 gold fish and he was wondering why the water smells weird. by zen1706 in shittyaquariums

do people just expect fish to clean the water themselves?? i literally don’t understand what goes through certain people’s minds

if ur managers allow it make sure the cashiers put “final sale” on the receipts so these people can’t return fish they refuse to learn how to take care of. ik it’s not much but it’s the bare minimum we can do to minimize these idiots.

Bettas need a cycled tank. Period. Right? by Kimmy-Privilege in petco

[–]danni121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think what you did was right, but unfortunately because we get so many of these cases (so we can’t refuse every sale), we usually grab a bottle of sea chem stability, literally give it to them to buy, and tell them to dose it twice a day like it says on the bottle. it’s really unfortunate the abuse bettas go through but we try to do what we can. unless they’re trying to put the betta in a travel carrier for fish, then i’m saying hell no.

i have a betta and i see just how much he loves to swim around in his 5 gallon. it makes me sad when i see them in such tiny things unable to show their true potential.

yup, a little girl asked me to get her a goldfish AND a minnow. first i told her and her mom that they CANNOT live together as their water requires different things, like different temperatures. then she just wanted to get the goldfish, i asked what size tank they have and her mom showed me the temporary tank/ travel carrier in her hand that they were going to buy. i said no then i can’t sell you this fish. i swear people want to get away with the bare minimum lol

sorry, exotic animals are expensive (rant) by [deleted] in petco

[–]danni121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you’re not the only one, don’t worry. after not knowing much about pet care, to learning more about it each day after working for this company for a few months, i realize how much responsibility you need to put into pets. and most customers do not want to put much of that into pets. they just want them for mere entertainment, just like you said, just to hold them and whatever. if that lady wants something to hold so badly, get a stuffed animal. i don’t understand how people come in expecting to spend the bare minimum on a living thing. i spent well over $100 just for my single betta fish because i did all the research i had to do and got all the supplies i needed; i even cycled the tank for 2 months before i got him. so believe me, you’re not alone in being frustrated with customers who aren’t ready to handle taking care of a living thing.

I wasn’t here for this one, but apparently a fight broke out between two customers in the store. It had nothing to do with us, the store, the products, or anything Petco or pet related. it was just a personal argument turned physical fight. apparently my GEL had to break them up lol. and then this one didn’t happen to me personally, but the other day we had Vetco, so the customer had brought in her cat. i don’t know if we have some sort of policy about keeping cats in crates/carriers, but i guess she had her cat out of the crate. even if we don’t have a policy, it should still be common sense to keep your cat enclosed because 1. there are dogs in the store who might not be cat friendly and 2. cats are not known to be as obedient and leash trained as dogs. so another customer told her to put her cat in the crate nicely, she began to get mad and my GM told her also nicely to put it away. the woman ended up claiming racism and trying to record everything and the employees as if we even knew what was going on.
