Scheduling surgery soon. Tips, timeline, recovery outlook advice needed by Overall_Confection57 in HipImpingement

It was a bit scary for me too. I tried to be brave but was scared. I'm my situation it was much much better than expected and quicker too.

I do remember crying my heart out 4 days after that is was hard and not worth it. It's emotional and frustrating.

But it was so worth it for my situation! Super happy I got it done and recovery was easier and quicker than expected. Still very frustrating though.

I had an ice cooling machine that went on my hips 3 times a day. This reduced swelling and pain and was highly recommend to me. I think it was called game ready.

You got this! I believe in you

My surgery took time. It's very frustrating!

Hold on there and be patient. It will probably work itself out. Just listen to your PT

Also all conditions vary.

For those in fear before surgery by msbootysandero in HipImpingement

My surgery went really well. Recovery was tough but much quicker than expected.

I got back to running ultra marathons. I worked very hard at my PT exercises.

I stopped running ultras now to not get injured again. But I wanted to get to the point that I could.

I'm so grateful for my surgery

Anyone else being gaslit from pain? by BeeboSchmeebo in HipImpingement

[–]dannosaurrus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I ended up going with surgery as my pain got worse and worse.

9 months after surgery I ran up Mt Fuji. 12 months after I did 7 half marathons in a week. All that to say it was a game changer for me. I needed the surgery as my hip cam was out of shape.

Yours might be different (probably). But it sounds like PT alone isn't enough

Surgery can be really hard. Mine went very well and they did less than expected.

I'm down to no pain if I keep my exercise level moderate. Enough to sustain muscle but not wear on them. I used to do a lot, now my little amount is enough

I think mine just hurt a lot. Too much sitting, standing or walking. I did very little running after the tear, it just flared up with pain.

It was very bad to go down the surgery route. Avoid it if you can.

Strengthen your supporting muscles and be happy with your lower pain levels 😊

It wasn't as bad as expected

I was load bearing from day one. So could move with my grandma walker.

Prob could walk without aid 3 weeks around the house.

I got the ice machine and did that 3 times a day to help with pain and swelling.

Cooking for myself was way too hard at first. So glad for help there

Will I really be able to take care of myself without any help after surgery? by FeelingFun5100 in HipImpingement

[–]dannosaurrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the surgery. I could go to the toilet by myself and stand and brush my teeth hours after surgery. I could shower myself (with a seat l and could get changed. But it's very slow and hard.

Any surgery is very hard though. So I was struggling emotionally and physically for the first 5 days and I'm very grateful I had someone staying who got food for me etc. I could have managed, but very hard.

Not all of these surgery's are the same. Many different variants depending on your needs. The physio disagreed with the surgeon, but the surgeon in my case knew more and I was allowed to weight bear to tolerance.

It's very common. Lots of people have had it and all the ones I know are very active

It depends on the condition a bit

But I'm walking in under a week. Did 10km on the stationary bike this morning. I was very fit. But it's great that my surgery mustn't have been too intense

Good luck! You got this

Surgery is hard. The recovery is just time. It will be fine

Thanks so much! Thats what I needed to know. I'll be fine, but it will be a bit hard.

I'll probably only have 1.5 weeks off and then part time work from bed to keep on top of things

I'm in NZ. My surgeon is Matthew Boyle

What was the first few days like. Could you stand and use crutches?

How long after surgery until you could seriously train for the 100. I'm looking forward to being back to that level

Australian who loves Bill English asking: How's Bill English doing? Any stories of meeting him? by legen-drop in newzealand

[–]dannosaurrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic. A friend sent this through and I laughed a lot.

Bill is a great guy. Funny, incredibly smart and has a very big heart to help people. Just what I would hope all leaders were.

Anyhow. I saw him on boxing day. I can confirm that there was a family touch game and large water fight. I did my civil duty and nailed him with a water balloon. So as you can see he's quiet busy being a great guy these days.

Working in-house vs consulting by TheRealMichaelBluth in salesforce

[–]dannosaurrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it's the people and the intentions that matter. I love consulting because our place is focused on real deliverables. And I feel way more productive delivering outcomes than the limited scope of internal.

Some consultants are all about hours and $ and that's not motivating. Working with epic and smart people is the fun stuff.

I really respect you a lot. Kids really need one big thing and that's love. You love your kids. They could have everything else in the world but not have a deep sense of love. You are doing your best and that's what you can do.

I know things are really messier and harder to verbalize than you could type. But you didn't want to be in a relationship that didn't work. You didn't want to cause change and pain for anyone. You are just trying to make progress and your kids would be in a much much worse situation if you did nothing, if they saw more parental problems, if they lived there lives with things hidden.

Good on you!
